YAMAHA 225
WHAT PROP WOULD YOU RUN ON THIS MOTOR TO GET MAX PERFORMANCE. I AM RUNNING 72.3GPS WITH STOCK PROP BUT ONLY TURNING 5800 WHEN THE MOTOR SHOULD BE GOOD FOR 6000.
Yamaha, but which one?
If you are running the 225 HPDI Vmax you are not going to turn 6000 rpm's, 5500 is max. I have the 200 and they tell me 5400 is about max.

Whoa Basscat...
TOO MUCH RPM CAPTAIN, MOTOR DETONATION IS IN YOUR FUTURE!!!!! You should be looking for a prop to take you down into that 5300 to 5500 rpm range and still gettting good performance. If you have been running it that way for a while, when it does blow the onboard computer will tattletail and void your warantee.

Question
Hey Scott, just wondering where you got the information that running 6,000 rpm will void your warranty?

I'm not sure where everyone is getting their info from, but. If you are running an HPDI, then you are fine on your RPM range. Your motor has a rev limt of 6250. 5800 is the best range to run. I know this info because I am on the Yamaha pro staff, and have had many conversations and testing opportunities with the techs who run the tournament support trailer. This was all done while setting up a Ranger Z21. If you can get away with a V Max 27-TI, that would be my choice. I know that Basscat ( I assume you have one) runs on air more than prop lift. The reason for this is the 27 was designed to run on Skeeters, bow lift is less of an issue. Not sure this will help but I hope so.
Yep
I am also on the Yamaha prostaff, and I have been assured that exceeding the "recommended" rpm range will not void your warranty.
As a matter of principle, a motor run at lower rpm's will usually serve you longer than one run at its extreme limits, but the motor was designed to rev up to the upper limits because that is what bass boat owners want.
Yes, the computer tracks what rpms your motor has been run at, but the rev limiter is designed to prevent over-revving so voiding the warranty is not an issue. Just don't spend a lot of time hitting the rev limiter or you may have an issue, since this often happens when going airborne over cruiser wakes, and that exposes your motor and boat to all kinds of harmful shocks.

I had a Champion 206 elite
and it had a older 225 yamaha (91) I had my buddy Lyle (excellent outboard machanic) build the motor and I ran a 25 pitch by 14 1/2 Yamaha Pro series SS prop Excellent hole shot and fast 69 mph!!! I played with a 6in jack plate and went to a 27 pitch and my hole shot wasnt so great but once I got on pad and trimmed all the way up I was GPS'ed at 79 mph with just me in the boat and only a few gallons of gas (high octane) but with full load 73-75mph the boat was just (BALLISTIC) Just ask the guy who bought it one ride and I heard "I'll Take it" lol lol. Yamaha is a great motor and maybe I am partial becuase in all the time I owned one it never let me down.
