Shoot and release ?

Post by Fish Chris »

I just watched an excellent program on the History Channel about taxidermy. It went over skin mounts, fiberglass replicas, freeze drying, and plastination....... of fish, birds, reptiles, mammals, even human beings (yikes !)

But the thing that amused me the most, was to find out that there are modern day big game hunters, who are paying thousands of dollars to go out and shoot wild animals, like Rhinoceraces, with tranquilizer darts ! Then they walk right up to the things, lift there heads up, and pose for the camera ! (if you were the guide, and your client was a jerk, might you 'accidentally' use only half the tranquilizer ? :-) Back home, the shooter can then commision a replica of his trophy, for the living room. Ha ! Can you believe this ?
Sounds really funny to me...... But then, I suppose that in years past, they would have thought that it would be silly, to catch a fish, release it, then have a fiberglass replica made, to try and match it's appearance. Geez, how things change.

Peace,
Fish

Junkie rino's

Post by Z man »

What a great idea. Only problem would be when the rino associates the dart with the high as the drug is usually a really large dose of an opiate like morphine which is easy to reverse with the antidote once done with the photo shoot is completed. This beats a "dirt nap" any day in my opinion.

Plastination of Humans

Post by Joe LaGrone »

As of last week there was an exibit of * Plastinized Humans* in San Fran. A friend from work went to see them & brought back brochures. Their from China.
Last week there was a news report about them, altho i didnt catch all of it, it said the federal govt. was making them leave because , reguardless of what the Chinese thought about them as a scientific exibit, their still * corpses* of humans.
A investigatiopn was also underway as to how they got into the USA,

I'm not married, and have no kids (planned that when I was still just a kid myself.... what brilliant insight that was). Why do you think I am able to fish 140 days (1400 hours) a year, and not even have a 'real' job ? :-)

just to be totally honest with you, I really do envy all you guys with homes of your own, awesome trucks, cars and boats, beautiful wives, great kids (when there not screaming, crying, or just being a general pain in the neck :-)
So in a nutshell, while I think my low work, low stress, and least responsibility kind of life is the right choice for me, there are certainly huge tradeoffs.

BTW Yea' ! The "Most dangerous job; Crab fishing" show is very cool ! But did you know that the Alaska Fish and Game has now (after 42 years) done away with the derby style crab fishing ? From now on, they will tell each boat, before the season even starts, how much crab they can take...... So no more competition. No matter how good, or how lame a captain and his crew are, he will get his limit, and no more. This will probably make things much safer...... but pretty much kills the show for next year.
