Stradic MGFB vs. Biomaster

Post by drew »

Which is a better reel? The Biomaster's sell for less then the Stradic's and the specs appear to be better. Why is the JDM stuff different?

We require reels with more durable gearing than the JDM models. The Biomaster is similar to the Stradic, except slightly more expensive at the true Shimano Japan MSRP. The pricing you see on the internet is due to the current exchange rate and the dealer selling below Japans MSRP.

The JDM reels are not covered by our warranty. We do not stock parts for the reels. I strongly suggest that you stay with the US model reels for future support and a warranty.

Drew, I've fished the Stradic Mgf1000's for years now, they are a great reel, same size as the 2500 but with a shallow spool. Problem is, they only have 5 bearings and you can feel it. I recently picked up a few (7) Biomaster 2000s (the "s" stands for "shallow spool"). These reels rock! They can be had for $125, have 8 bearings including a bearing at the end of the spool shaft which really helps stabilize the spool when fighting a fish. The Biomaster is much smoother than the Stradic Mgf's and lighter as well. There is no warranty but, for the price, and with the possibility of sending it to Japan for service, I've concluded that there is not a better deal available right now. I don't think you'll regret picking one up.

You are talking about the JDM spinning reels right? I thought that the JDM casting were similar to the American casting

This includes all JDM reels. Some of the parts will work on the casting reels. This does not mean that there is a warranty on these models.

The spinning reels are all very different and several parts do not interchange.

I have 2 biomasters (2000 Shallow Spool & a 3000 & 1 Twinpower 3000.The 3000 models are the body's of the 2500 with a larger capacity spool.I have fished with both of these reels and the bio is smoother and has a better drag system than the stradic.IMHO both of these reels (Bio) out preform the stradic. The Twinpower is Japans model of the Sustain this reel is SWEET! very smooth and has a wet drag system that rocks. The Twinpower is right around the price of the Sustain. I know they don't cover these reels here in the states but you can find folks that will work on them.
