Just Curious....

Post by BassManDan »

With many fancy creatue baits on the market, and everyone's own preferences, I'm just curious which is the top o' the heap.

All the best,

IMO the sweet beaver is the best creatur bait out there. I have fished with all and I have always caught more fish on the beaver! I hope this helps!

I would say, due to it's age, that the old Brush hog is #1, with the sweet beaver coming on. But do not rule out the newer hog by yamamoto.. Bill K :)

I suppose I ought to cast my own vote.
The beaver is a strong staple for me, a compact bait, nice profile and a consistent fish catcher. Are there any two colors better than Sprayed Grass and Hematoma?!
I'm also a fan of the new Berkley Sabertail, it's a smaller bait compared to the norm, but it's got a ton of action in that small package.

Gotta love a freak!

I am not a big fan of Creature baits....not sure why? But a Zoom Baby Brush Hog dragging behind the boat plain WORKS!!!!

I believe they all have the applications, but it mostly depends on my mood and/or what I have in the tackle box. But I vote Brush Hogs #1. Followed very closely by Sweet Beavers for 2nd. And a tie for third with Yamamoto Kreature and Hula grub (hula grub not really a creature, but very close).

i for one voted for the sweetbeaver, that compact bait has cought me a lot of flip fish over the years. The up N comer for me when the beav is not getting bit is definatly the net bait paca craw....this is a great compact bait with tons of action.

I am surprised with the Brush Hog, I think I have never cought a fish on the full size brush hog, but have done really well with the baby brush hog.

Cooch

I voted OTHER!

Post by Cooch »

In as much as I use a Beaver and Brush Hog from time to time, I think the Yamamoto Kreature is an under uttilized bait and have far greater success with it most of the time. The Beaver's good here on the Delta and ClearLake, but not so special fer me anywhere else. That dang Brush hog will catch fish ANYWHERE! Kinami's Norie Bug catches em too. Zoom's Super Hog is a good one also! Yamamoto's Flappin Hog is a cool lil bait, but it works best fer me as a Jig trailer, and even then, only during certain periods of time. Berkeley's Power Craw and the Gene Larew Craw have been fergotten fish catchers fer me over the years too! Yamamoto's DT Hulas are as Kreature as they git. I won a boat once fishing that bait, as well as a 13+ pounder ate it one day at Folsom! Yum has a lot of options, but it seems ta me like all they ever do is knock offs from someone else's bait, so I don't use their products. There are a lot of Kreature choices out there though!

With all that said, Yammy Hulas git my vote!

I would have to say it is the Double Wide Beaver. At least 90% of my big largies over the last 2 yrs have come on that bait.Being way up here in the NW I consider anything over 6lbs to be big as northerns go.So far this year I have a 8.6 and a 9.7(caught on oct 1 of this year) on the DW.My 9.9 came on a buzzer.

Back to basics....

Post by NaCl »

I agree 100% Cooch. Last week, I was struggling in a club TOC until I picked up that tried and true Yamamoto Hula Grub in green pumpkin. I put the next 4 keepers in the boat in less than an hour. It got me a check!

for me it is a tie between the yamamoto creature and the brush hog. I used them both for pullin bass out of the wood back in north carolina. I also once found some creatures from a local maker in a small tackle shop and they worked really well for me.

4 or 5" twin tail Hula Grub, then the Ika, the 4" one (if that counts).

All I need to get into the money would be the four I usually get along with a 20# kicker.

I like the hulas for spots (shasta, oroville & folsom) on a football jig. Not much luck on the delta or clear lake.

The beaver has been a good bait on the delta for me.

Now that I think about it I don't fish it much anymore, but if I had to pick only one creature bait in one size that I had to fish on the delta, CL, shasta, oroville, the little lake down the street in Newark or any pond I have never been to...it would be a pumpkin w/black flake zoom baby brushhog. I can split shot it, T-rig, carolina, put it on a jighead or as a trailer and catch fish. They may not be the biggest fish, but if conditions were tough, and I had to catch fish on all the lakes I know I have done it with the baby brushhog.
