PASS ON TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW

Post by crash »

I dialed '0' and asked the operator who confirmed that this was correct so please pass it on...(l also checked out Snopes.com..this is true, and also applies to cell phones!)

PASS ON TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW

I received a telephone call last evening from an individual identifying himself as an AT&T Service Technician (could also be Telus) who was conducting a test on the telephone lines. He stated that to complete the test I should touch nine(9), zero(0), the pound sign (#), and then hang up.
Luckily, I was suspicious and refused.

Upon contacting the telephone company, I was informed that by pushing 90#, you give the requesting individual full access to your telephone line, which enables them to place long distance calls billed to your home phone number. I was further informed that this scam has been originating from many local jails/prisons
DO NOT press 90# for ANYONE.

The GTE Security Department requested that I share this information with
EVERYONE I KNOW.

After checking with Verizon they also said it was true, so do not dial 90#
for anyone !!!!!

PLEASE HIT THAT FORWARD BUTTON AND PASS THIS ON TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW!!! :!: :!: :!:

I got that call earlier twice and i hung up both times. It sounded fake, so there is no mythbusting needed

I checked it out on Snoops.com
Seems it only applies to phone systems that requier you to dial 9
to get a out side line. cell phones and home phones are ok.

Crash,
Hate to say it, but this is an old thing - way old!
Those of us who spend a lifetime working on computers and the internet have seen it all - most all anyway. As bass smacker mentioned, this is an old trick that only applies to phone services where they have a phone system requiring a 9 to dial out.

Thanks for thinking of us though as its always good to be reminded that a) people are constantly out there trying to take advantage of you, so be weary!; and b) use your common sense alsways, if it sounds too good - it is. if it feels or sounds fishy - it is!

I fell victom to a scam this week to I should pass on. While waiting at a stoplight in Lakeport a scantily clad female came up to my car and offered to wash my windshield for $1. I said okay. She took her time and pressed her body up against the glass. The windshield friction pulled her top down exposing her upper body. As I was distracted, her girlfriend snuck in the back seat and took my wallet when I wasn't looking.

BEWARE They are very very clever. I have lost 4 wallets at the same stop light this week.
