Wow did anybody else have problems on the Delta Today
Man oh Man what a tough bite today. Fished Franks with no results. I used jigs, crankbaits, T-rigs. There were a lot of boats out didn't see any action from them either. How did everybody else do?

I fished Disappointment and caught one about 12 oz LOL. Very tough. Several other boats, but didn't see anything caught. My confidence level is at zero.

What parts of Franks were you on? I was having a real hard time couple of weeks ago in the open water. Someone gave me the advice of fishing sloughs that dead end. Right now with the water temp dropping the fish are moving up towards water that is more constant. I tried it last time I went out and did allot better. Hope it helps and keep your head up; at least you were out there! I’m at work!

You'll want to keep that in mind when it gets cold. The dead end sloughs w/ little or no current are some of the spots to check when it's *really* winter...CW2 Tucker wrote:Someone gave me the advice of fishing sloughs that dead end.

I fished Whites for one keeper and two dinks. The wife was just here for the weekend and left, so I went back out to the mokelumne and the bite improved later about 4pm. Heard the Fresno Bass Club won the club classic with 68 lbs. That is a tough bite! Sure, I finally get a whole week to fish here and the bite turns bad. Hopefully when the showers arrive the bite will turn on.

Heck I feel better, now
Especially since I got skunked yesterday
Today I went out a bit earlier and caught a little striper on the first cast. That was the only striper of the day, however. Caught four keeper-size largemouths; lipless crankbaits ruled. Saw one I'd guess at 6-7 pounds in the shallows near one of my favorite spots, had just untied a buzzbait & couldn't get him to eat a Tangled Rattletrap
I saw guys doing well on the stripers, I need to figure out how to catch keeping-size linesiders

We sure did!
Took the boss out fer some early morning striper fishing, spent two hours with nary a thump, then talked him inta chasin some largies. Caught prolly a dozen fish over the next 3 hours, then Tony whacks this 6.5 pounder on a Kreature, we decided ta git off the water at 11:00 and call it an EXCELLENT day before the bite toughed up! HAR! HAR! HAR! The bite is tough right now, has been fer 3 weeks. Yet there is a good bite out there if'n ya work real hard for em and really put yer thinkin caps on! Jig-n-pig, Brush Hogs and Yamamoto Kreatures have been the ticket fer me in getting the better bites.

I sure didn't!
I blanked on Saturday (10/13/07) with kreature baits and the kitchen sink, oven, fridge, microwave, etc. Where do your kreature baits like to swim? I had low tide all morning and didn't follow the outgoing tide. Is that my mistake? I just posted a report for that day.

I started at some tulle islands that lead to deeper water - nothing (Strike 1). After that I fished ledges - nothing (Strike 2). Then I fished flats with warmer water - nothing (Strike 3 your out). I think I was doing the right thing but I was probably fishing to fast. I have a hard time fishing slow. Even when I think I'm fishing slow I need to slow down even more.

Our fish all came shallow. 3-6 feet, heavy cover, wood, with deep water real close and very little current at all!Old School wrote:I blanked on Saturday (10/13/07) with kreature baits and the kitchen sink, oven, fridge, microwave, etc. Where do your kreature baits like to swim? Hope Cooch doesn't mind me chiming in...
My one observation on the morning's fishing was that we fished a number of spots in a relatively short amount of time. Seems like we were moving pretty quickly if an area wasn't getting bites right away and I think that helped us get the bites we did get.
The 6.5 was tucked up close to a small clump of tulles in about two feet of water right off a rock bank. It was just shaded down at the base of the tulle clump and when I pitched in my Kreature the fish took the bait and swam toward the boat immediately. What I saw was the line moving in towards the boat, didn't feel a bite at all. Several of the fish I caught yesterday morning took the bait and swam with it as soon as the pitch entered the water. I was using 17lb Transition flourocarbon and I usually feel the bites real good, but not yesterday.
Hope this helps some,
sTony

The Devil Mountain BassMasters had our monthly
tournament Saturday. We fished out of Big Break and want to thank the Biron's for allowing us to use the "Stage Area" for our weigh-in, Thanks !
Overall we experienced the same bite, tough, tough, tough. The boys did manage to bring in a few good fish, one close to 10# another @ 6#, I could only manage 4 fish and was not competitive. What I found interesting was how shallow I found fish, the tide was out all day and yet I caught fish in 1 foot of water, they were on the shady side of tulle clumps??

Re: Wow did anybody else have problems on the Delta Today
Don't forget small reapers if the bite gets tough and the water gets cooler...I can still remember me and "Big Mike" killing em' one year on 2 inch reapers with brass and glass in the Big Break Marina...Kettle got em' like that too with small purple worms...The beads were red...We also went to deer hair spinner baits custom made by me (Slam Dunk Lures)...Sally had a ball selling em' and they caught tons of fish...Change of Habit just like Elvis's movie sometimes does the trick...
Dee switched over too one time...They didn't want the jig that day and he told me to put on a small black and chartruese ringworm, first cast I Flip a 4 pounder out west, I looked at him in bewilderment and just shook my head and we both laughed...Once a King, always a King...
Dead end sloughs this time of year can load up with shad...Look for birds...They may not be there one week and the next it can be loaded...Rattle Traps can be the ticket then... I got a saying, "When I can't get bit, it's time for the Trap, no not the former baitshop in Rio Vista, either...
Sapp knows, too...When the bank fisherman are hanging out of the trees dippin' for crappie, it's TIME...That's all I'm saying Sapper, nothing else...
Shad*Wizard out...

Re: Wow did anybody else have problems on the Delta Today
I was out there on Sat. evening and managed 3 fish, two of them over three. I was fishing the sunny side of tule island and found them at about 3ft on the ends of the island. Isolated cover off of the tulles held fish. Same thing with me, I never felt the strike, the fish just took my ait and swam towards me.
Coolest thing I've ever seen on the water though. I was fish the tulles when I saw them start to shake like crazy. I knew there had to be a big fish there. Then all of a sudden, a 10lber jumped 6" straight up out of the water infront of me!!
Tried to catch her, but no luck. I'm thinking she busted a shad and took off for deeper water. The image is permanently imprinted on my mind now! Can't wait to see if she's still there next week!
