Finally...Manteca BPS......

Post by Larry Douglas »

has broken ground. Scrapers were clearing debris from the site on Monday. As far as I know, they still have a completion date of Fall of 08.

Yes its true BPS is coming...My partner has been working on concrete bids lately for that project and if all keeps rolling we will assuredly be done by Fall '08. Anyone who lives in Manteca should thank the city council for almost losing the job by dragging their feet. What great local politics...Where do you all find these brainiacs and who votes them into office?

No pun intended....The city drug their feet for months perhaps a year on this thing. For a city in dire needs of employment and development they sure can waste time. Maybe they should have just built it in Sacto.

My fishing pard develops and builds shopping centers and told me last week it takes about 2 years from the time you aquire the land until you break ground.

My brother and I owned an engineering and permitting company for a number of years and it used to drive us nuts spending all those hours in planning hearings while some frizzy headed, hairy legged old biddy would talk for hours about her cats getting upset if construction started.

I totally understand where your coming from Barry...I work in development now but my education is city planning and I worked many years on "indevelopment" projects that just never came around because somebody was going to be put out by it. Unreal. Everyone wants to develop as long as its not in their backyard or any inconvience to them.

Re: Sacto BPS

Last I heard, BPS signed a letter of intent, to build a store.
If the downtown railyard ever develops, that is where it is going to be.
Before that can happen the city leaders in Sac need to realize there is no reason for a new KINGS arena down there and just go with some business and a whole bunch more parking!

Is the Manteca store going to be a big monstrosity (not to say that other BPS stores aren') but since it's the first in Northern CA, will it be particularly huge?

Manteca City Council will screw you. They raised the sales tax here by .5 percent so that they can hire more police and firefighters. They turned around and paid Costco 3 million to have them build a store here. Where do you think Manteca got this 3 million from? That's right, the tax increase that was supposed to pay for more police and firefighters!

I'd boycott buying anything in Manteca. This includes the new BPS.
