They both have poor filtering efficiency. I don't recommend either product. They will increase engine output, but will sacrifice longevity especially if you live in a dusty area. Also over oiled gauze filters foul mass air flow sensors

I have a k@n on my dodge it really opens things up. If you really want some boost you need to open up your exhaust with a good flow thru cat back system., make sure your do not go any larger with pipe diameters or you will loose low end torque.

Drew is correct here, plus I like a good cat-back, but it's not a diesel so keep it within the correct parameters.
I like the K&N flow, but I do so knowing the filtering isn't as good, and it's also true that the MAFS do get dirty from the oil, which can mess with th ecomputer...

I have been using K&N in my 2000 Silverado and have over 120,000 miles on it. It still pulls my Ranger over the grades without a problem, even with my Four Wheel camper in the bed. I document my mileage everytime I get gas and I haven't seen a reduction in mileage.

You do have to be careful not to over oil the filter and allow sufficient time for the filter to dry though. If not, as noted earlier, it will mess up the MAFS.

Also, I clean mine whenever I change the oil...every 3,000 miles.

Gauze filters filter better as they accumulate dirt. They should not be cleaned on normal road vehicles more often then 50K miles. Its wise to check them every 25K for excessive build up. 3k is to often. The cleaning process deteriorates the cotton and windows the gauze. I have studied these types of filters in depth. The conclusion was that they are one of the most successful automotive gimmicks. The auto manufactures love these filters because they will wear out an engine prematurely, but progressively enough that the failure is usually after the warranty has expired.
