You may want to shoot Murph a PM...
Him and Mel own lake Powell.
But I hear Mel catches all the fish and Murph happily nets them.

take bold blue gill, baby blue gill 4 1/2 curl tails.. and pretty much any mid column suspending jerkbait in bone white. Mega bass makes a sweet one that works well there.

Too Funny, Pete! But true. When Mel's bite is on, we usually have a real good day, and I always have a smile on my face, when netting. Even when she hollers at me for not getting the net fast enough.
Now Alex, the first thing you may want to do is take a cruise up the lake and in to some of the Bays. If you have the fuel capacity, I would at least set aside one day to go to Dangling Rope or even to the mouth of the San Juan. Even if you don't fish, you'll get a feel for what the lake is like. Just kind of take it all in, if you know what I mean. Then start hitting some of the spots that look good, inlets, cuts, rock-slides, etc. etc. Keep an extra sharp eye out for yellowish water, because that means there is a Big Round Boulder, or some kind of hazard just under the surface. If it's cloudy, be extra careful, while navigating. As far as fishing, just throw what you throw at Mead, and something will climb on. If you tie into a prehistoric looking thing, don't lip it, because there is a real good supply of Walleyes, and an occasional Pike or Tiger Muskie. Now give Bump or Randy a call and let them fill in the blanks.
Have fun and enjoy. Murph

It might be lonely at the Top, but it's a bitch, at the Bottom !

san juan arm is legit...i was on the lake for 10 days.. we took the house boat all the way up to san juan arm..it was some of the best smallmouth and striper fishing i have ever had.I went all the way back into the san juan creek when its only about 30 yards wide and goes for miles. There was some super nice boulders in the mouth that held big smallies. We were cathcing 2 smallies at a time on jerkbaits,, it was a ton of fun. You guys should have a blast.

Re: going to powell for very first tyme
We were there a couple of weeks ago. Be careful when fishing near the sheer canyon walls which are all over the place. A couple of boaters were killed while we were there when a 250' sheet of sandstone fell onto their boat. I'm serious!! It was our first time there also. Fishing was fair.
