Desperately Searching.......

Post by Cooch »

for a deal on an Evinrude 200+ motor!

A few weeks ago, I popped the #4 cylinder in my 225 Ficht on the Blue boat, 3 days later, my back up boat's 200 Johnson desintigrated. I love ya too Murphy! The older 200 ain't worth messing with, it's possible we can put the Ficht back together, yet cost and time is an issue here. I've not had any luck searching the internet looking for something to replace at least one of these motors.

If anyone out there knows of anyone who might be able ta help me remedy this situation, short of purchasing a BRAND Spankin new motor from a dealer somewhere(I have no problems finding this on my own LOL), I would greatly appreciate yer insight! I'll even go as far as to offer a 4 trip, seasonal guide package, as an incentive for the referal if'n it pans out. Please contact me directly via PM or E-mail. Thanks!

Hey cooch I remember some years ago when I had to guy another motor I got a deal threw the manufacturer. I think they had some motors that were brand new (overstocked) or reconditioned ( rebuilt). I believe my motor brand new would have been 8900 and I got it for 4700. If you can get a hold of the motor rep they will know about this. Mine came with a warrenty and everything. Maybe Gary Dobyns could find out some information on this as well.

I too have a 225 Ficht that has problems. Just about to get Antioch Marine a call to help me with it until I saw this desperate cry from Cooch. As memory recalls, he was bragging about the motor this Spring. Jinx himself. Last month Lyle did not have a motor or powerhead for the OMC. $3500 is a good price but I would replace the powerhead with a Bombarier manufactured one. Lyle says these are reliable but the lower units suck. Match the powerhead with your lower and you will have a dependable ride again. If you change over to Merc, you will need to change controls, control cables, tach gauge, and trim gauge. Its not worth all the hasle to go merc. Optis also have their issues. Lyles full numer is 209/570-6634. He only sells new or rebuilt items.

I would also suggest Lyle Gosset. He is an evinrude guy and could probably point you in the right direction.

You can also check out the bassboatcentral.com motor classifieds, someone has a 1999 225 HO on there right now. You should also check the Johnson/Evinrude forum on bassboatcentral, as there are a few guys on there that are mechanics at marinas inother parts of the country that may be able to hook you up.

Another website that sells motors and ships nationally is smalloutboards.com. do not let the name fool you they sell all sizes of motors and have had some great deals on some e-tecs in the past. They do not have anything on their site right now but I would e-mail/call them to see if they have any motors in stock that are not listed yet.

Could not find any complete motors on Ebay, but they have a big bore Powerhead. It's a carb motor with larger 4 inch pistons. Drink that gas down really fast and tear down the Delta like no one else. A stock 3.0 liter 225 Ficht has 3.5 inch pistons.

Cooch, did you take the heads off of your back up boat? Sometimes its not that bad. You can get away with honing in some blown motors. And I think carb motors are more reliable although they drink tons of gas.

Just spoke with this guy about his 98 EFI Merc. I couldn't find the ad in the classified, but his number is 530-227-3476. He said he would take $2500 for it and that it one belonged to Phil from Phil's prop. You'll need to switch the items I mentioned you go with Merc vs Rude. Goodluck man, I have one blown 200 EFI and an electrical issue with my 225 Ficht. Outboard are just not reliable.

Cooch: You might have this handled already, but do you know Bernie Schultz, the pro from Florida? Every now and then he has a new motor or boat he mentions on one of our old lure collecting sites. He wants to trade for old lures but also sells the stuff he has won. You may know him. He did pretty good on the Delta last year.

Anyway, he has a new email and if you want it, shoot me a pm.

( I think he had something up last week, forgot if it was a boat or motor. I know he had a big motor recently. Dig out some of those old rare lures you have hidden down there and trade him. LOL)
