Proud owner of a 2005 Vmax HPDI 200!!!! :D :D

My darn optimax gave me fits so I went to Yamaha even when I had an issue Yamaha & Capitol City Marine were all over it. Mid range power on this thing is GREAT!! Eats a little more fuel than Mercs but is better on oil.

Bought my Ranger new in 2002 with the 200 HPDI Yamaha and haven't had to do one thing to it other than regular maintenance. It runs at 5300 RPM and just under 60 on this boat. Low RPM is probably why its lasted so long. I have over 300 hours on it. I strongly recommend this motor to anyone purchasing a new boat or replacing an old motor.

They are reliable, but have the worst fuel consumption of any motor. That is one reason why you will not be able to buy a new 2-stroke Yamaha next year. (California)

Hey anniesaltie, now you have my curiosity up. Why would a motor not do well on the Delta "specifically" ? Do well, how ?

Hmmmm...
Fish

BTW, again, just out of curiosity {since a 200 hp motor might be 'just a touch' too big for my boat ;-)} what is the emmisions star rating for the Yamaha V-max 2 strokes ?

a fishing pal on mine has a 200hp yamaha. he complained about running across franks because the intake or something was on the lower part of the motor.......it would cause the motor to choke up on grass... i am not exact of the parts but i am exact on his statement! he told me the next year they fixed it by a new design.

My 2002 choked up crossing Franks Tract. Not sure I should have been crossing there anyway as the weeds were just below the surface. I had to stop and trim the engine up and blow the weeds out to get it going again. I don't know anything about the design of these engines but I'm not sure it couldn't happen on other motors. Had I been going faster it may not have happened at all. I am not familiar with most parts of the delta and if I go down there again I think I'll go around instead of through that area.

I have owned two Yamaha Outboard motors. Motor #1 was a 1987 Yamaha Pro-V 150, purchased in 1986 with a new Ranger 375V from Bobs Marine. I own that boat for 19 years. I sold that rig in January 2005. The engine is still running like day one. I never had that engine in the shop for anything. Never changed a part other than a water pump impeller. All other servicing I accomplished. Motor #2 is a 2005 Yamaha 225HP Vmax pushing a Ranger Z20. I am loyal to the Yamaha brand because of the Quality and dependability I have experienced. Motor #2 has not had any issues.

Good Fishin
