I'm beginning to do some research on the possible reasons why our Salmon population seems to have declined lately on the delta and would love to hear what "fisherman," have to say?
Thank's,

Re: Salmon?
I fish for salmon all the time, but have thrown in the towel the last few years. Everyone wants to blame someone for it. So you are going to get a hundred different answers. But the main answer I can tell you is the water flows. The salmon will not hold in the river if the water is to warm. They will travel from the golden gate all the way to the fish ladder in 3 days and will not stop and hold in the holes. When fisherman target salmon the river traditionaly it always with baits/beads, row ect... on the bottom. The last few years the only way I can get bit is running baits in 3 to 6' feet of water. The fish just have not been on the bottom, and are flying up river. I have got reports of people in the ocean who have caught salmon that are black. I dont know if its because they turned around and came back to the ocean, or just never went up river. Or it could be B.S. All I know is that when the water is around 65 deg I can stick fish consistantly. Warmer than that fish for something else.

Re: Salmon?
Dams, water diversions, lack of spawning habitat, lack of habitat for young, high water temps, poor water quality, too many predators in the delta/bay, over fishing, low genetic diversity due to hatchery practices, the list is endless.
Another nice little kick in the *** is that for years the fine to the power companies for not building a fish ladder cost less then it would have to build a fish ladder, so they just never made one.
If you want some good primary literature on this stuff, e-mail, I have some articles.

Re: Salmon?
Yeah I would like to see a ladder at lake Natomas and folsom dam on the american. To much of are water is sent down south and used for AG. I think the DFG has very little voice on how are water should be saved for fish runs. They probably dont even bother bringing it up anymore. Its more importain to keep those swimming pools full in San Diego than it is for are salmon, steelhead, shad, BASS, Striper, Stugeon ect... All I can hope for is that my boys will still have a fishery when they get older. Most of are political people come from down south and are up here in nor-cal pushing there political agenda. They start saying are infastructure is old and failing and build up all this stuff to get people to believe that more dams and aquaducts in are delta will solve all are problems. Yeah go blow smoke up your own a##. Hey just cuz I cant spell, dont mean I am stupid.

You know after 9-11 the post office did comemerative stamps for the police and fire dept. They tried to do them for lawyers but had to recall them. No one could figure out what side to spit on.
