Well I'm close to placing my order to build a nice little spinning rod, that should be on par with my shimano clarus, but a little bit fancier!
I plan on using standard Gudebrod thread, but I was wondering what size is standard for wrapping. there are grade sizes A-E and I can't figure out which is bigger or smaller.
I use a 6/0 thread for tying my jigs, but that is pretty thin and I often break it when pulling for a tight wrap.
So if you experienced folk can let me know what letter size (A-E) is the gold standard, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks a bunch,
BassManDan

Re: Rod building...Thread Size
A is the smallest and goes to E. you wnat to use A for the rod you are wrapping. also get some of the new XT metallic thread. It is a very strong metalic thread that makes good trim or even to wrap with.

Size A is what you want to use,
Re: Rod building...Thread Size
If your going to put one color on top of the other make the bottom color smaller than the top......example....A on the bottom and C on the top. also when using size A to put guides on use a file or stone (better) to smooth out the foot on the guides....makes for a seamless trans from rod to guide best of luck mike
Re: Rod building...Thread Size
I would use size d thread. It is easier to see, climbs the foot easier and stronger. If you get good and have good eyes then maybe go to the smaller thread.
Re: Rod building...Thread Size
"D" is WAY too big... I use that for my heavy saltwater rods, but wouldn't think of using it for a freshwater rod.
For a spinning rod, I'd use "A" myself, although you could certainly go up to "C" if you were so inclined... it's much easier to work with for sure. A will give a much more refined finish.
