The Core didnt have a 7.0:1 gear ratio without the Instagage II.

I wanted a 7.0:1 MG reel without the Instagage II and was willing give up the warranty to get it.

Too late, I already placed my order. Thanks for looking out on the warranty though :D

You still get the warranty you just have to ship it back to Jun at japan Tackle If you buy it from him he will fix it and the shiping is not that much more 11.00 to japan 8.00 to Irvine

You will love it, the 1 thing I know though if you having real good hearing you will be able to hear the gears, don't worry about it if you can its just the fact that the sound comes throw the side plate alittle more because of what the real is made of. I have 3 and they all make a little gear noise 8)

Would one be favored over the other for fishing vegetation and wood cover, or could either one be used? Or possibly as a frog reel. Guess I am asking, which reel is more powerful? Thanks.

I would have to say the Core would be the better reel for pitchin to wood as it has the Instagage II. As far as power, they both are 7 gear ratio so it really would come down to personal prefernce.

I dont know if this helps any?

The Core 100MGFV has a brass gear set. The brass gear set is much stronger for use with heavier lines such as braid.
