Line winder help
Line winder help
I need a little help. Santa has asked me for some ideas for Christmas and I came up with something that will be very useful. I am looking for a line winder. Electric, that can handle both baitcasting as well as spinning. Brands, price ranges and places to buy will make some elves very happy. I've burned enough fingers and twisted too many lines over the years and I would like to make this tedious job a little easier.
Thanks for the responses,

Cyclone for sure, unless you need to do large saltwater reels also...

It's very portable - mine goes with me on all my extended trips just in case.
Here's the review: http://www.tackletour.com/reviewberkleycyclone.html
If you need a heavy saltwater winder, they get very pricey. I got a Berkley HD-III, which is an absolute beast, but will do everything up to and including my International 70VS and 80SW reels.

Re: Line winder help
Thanks Roger, this one looks pretty good. I only wish it could also wind salt water reels. Maybe with a little mod to the clamps it would work with some smaller size S.W. reels.

Re: Line winder help
I know your quandary... went through it myself when I first started looking. The saltwater winders that will also accommodate freshwater baitcasters and spinning spools are really expensive and have a very large form factor, such as my HD-III. It isn't practical (for me) as a regular winder for my light-duty freshwater needs, nor is it something I'd want to drag with me in my motorhome or to host lodging... I can do that with the Cyclone very easily.
For winding my salt gear, from the SL and Saltist reels through all my Internationals, I finally ended up getting the HD-III as I figured the cost of having The Longfin or Kimura's spool my spectra and/or mono on my bigger reels would exceed the cost of buying bulk and winding myself over the course of several years.
Good luck, and I hope Santa brings you exactly what you want!

Re: Line winder help
Wow Roger you and your high funagle stuff. I showed Brian the trash can bit. Heck it still works well for me. Also putting the spool in water works well.
I guess I better step it up and move into the 21st century.

Re: Line winder help
That all works fine for the light duty stuff, but when you tie into a bigger tuna, or wahoo, or something that really pulls, you'd better have your line packed on tight or you'll never get it back on the spool.
Also, when you're a tackle whore like me and have too many reels to manage, it really helps keep your line fresh and manageable!

Re: Line winder help
I was going to suggest something but it doesn't compete with Roger's... Thats a serious piece of hardware there...
Re: Line winder help
Where do you order these? I didn't have any luck on Google. It looks like every store has discontinued selling these for some reason. It is not even on the Bekley website.

Re: Line winder help
It's actually manufactured by Triangle Manufacturing, I believe, and marketed by Berkley I presume.
I can't recall where I got mine, as I've had it for a couple of years now (I think it was BPS or Cabelas), but I just did a Google search and found it on two different sites out of the first few links returned - one was Charkbait ($$$expensive$$$) and one was Linewinders.com (about what I recall paying). I would bet one or more of the board sponsors may carry them, so I'd recommend checking them first? If they can't help you, try the phrase cyclone line winder in Google.
