The left hydraulic on my 200 Merc Optimax has been leaking fluid for about 2 months. Now the engine doesn't trim up anymore. I'm out of warrentee...
How do you fill it up? The "fill up hole" has a strange angle but I got a straw to funnel fluid into it but the fluid didn't stay in there. Do I need to push the trim rods down or something?
I'm lost and don't want to pay a fortune to get it fixed. Am I stuck or does anyone any tips for me? Any handman want to give me a hand for cash? I'm in San Bernardino.
Thanks for your time.
Trim hydraulic busted - any advice???
Re: Trim hydraulic busted - any advice???
The fill cap should be on the top, left side, of the unit. It has a large flat head screwdriver top.
If the motor will not trim up, you need to vent it off using the vent on the bottom right side. Unscrew it counterclockwise and it will vent off and you can raise the motor by hand. Lift the motor all the way up and put it on the supports. Tighten the vent plug next. Fill the reservoir up to almost the top.
You will have to cycle the motor up and down several times to get the fluid to fill the reservoir, and you may have to slightly vent the system a few times to get the air out if you get any inside.

if you don't get all the air out you will be replacing the O -rings/seals
and if it has been leaking for months and you have been using it you may have some seals gone allready
Hate to be the 1 to say that

Thanks. Sounds like I might need to get someone to fix it for me then so I don't screw it up.
