With temperatures hovering just above freezing 25 team braved the weather at Lake Mead for the Nevada Regions opening tournament. With very little wind blowing at launch time everyone was hoping for warmer temperatures when the Sun came up. As the day went on the Sun came out but in some areas of the lake so did the wind.
All in all the weather cooperated and 11 teams brought limits to the scales. Fishing was tough but some nice bass were weighed including some two pound plus Smallmouth bass. Even with the cold weather condition 75 bass were weighed totaling 117.81 lbs. The top two teams weighed 9 lbs. or more four teams weighed in over 8 lbs., three teams weighed in over seven lbs., and two teams weighed in over five lbs.
Leading the way was Deejay Evans and his partner Chris Landerman. Fishing together for the first time in a WON Bass event not ony caught the biggest bass but went on to win the tournament. The team weight in a big bass that top the scales at 3.15 lbs. with a total bag of 9.83 lbs. Unfortunately they failed to enter the big fish option and missed out on some big money.
Right behind the leader was the team of Pat Donoho and Bobby Ellis. With their calm and laid back style the brought in the second biggest bag of the day. Donoho and Ellis finished with a total bag weighing 9.00 lbs. Always in the top 10 finishers Donoho and Ellis over came the loss of Pat’s sister-in-law just a few days before the tournament. Everyone in the WON Bass organization want to past along our sympathy and prayers to Pat and his wife for their loss. Pat has been a long time friend and champion to all the angler in WON Bass and other circuits he has fished.
New to our circuit this year is the team of Ray Arbesu and Kurt Milana. They made themselves right at home by placing third in their first WON Bass Nevada Region tournament. The team combined to bring 8.83 lbs. to the scales including a big bass of 2.45 lbs. Congratulations to Ray and Kurt and we hope they will be back to fish many more of our tournaments.
Fourth place went to a team that has fished our circuit in the past but with other partners. Matt Warner and Paul Nichols teamed up and brought in a bag weighing in at 8.62 lbs. with their large bass tipping the scales at 2.11lbs. I think this team will stay together and be a force to reckon with in future tournaments.
Finishing first out of the money was another new team. Tim Meyers, who fished last year and Jesse Milicevic, new to the circuit this year, managed 8.58 lbs. to finish in fifth place. Tim and Jesse had a big bass of 2.15 lbs. jest missing fourth place.
With Evans and Landerman not being in the big fish option left the door open for the team of John and Tammy Morrow to grab big fish honors with a bass weighing 2.54 lbs. and placing sixth over all. John and Tammy were the last of six teams to bring in over 8 lbs. for the day.
Finishing just behind the Morrow’s was the team of Danny Branscum and Troy Duncan. Branscum and Duncan finished with 7.64 lbs. for the day and winning the 8 lb. option.
Kurr professionl Fishing donated two $25 Bass Pro Shop Gift Cards for the Smallest big fish weighed at the tournament. The first recipient of these cards is the team of David and Barbara Trott with a bass weighing in at 1.17 lbs. Congrats to Dave and Barbie.

More on the incentives will be forth coming in the next few weeks so check our web site www.wonbassnevada.com for details as they become available.
