Motherlode Catalytic Converter Thefts?...

Post by Shad*Wizard »

Just read an article on the Amador Ledger Dispatch site about catalytic converter thefts up in Jackson and Ione...Seven thefts were reported last week and most of the vehicles were Toyotas...Keep your eyes open, and if you see some slime bag at a launch working underneath a truck, it may not be his and he may be stealing the converter for big recycle bucks!...

Rumor has it that both meth-heads and swimbait junkies are prime suspects.

Dave,

I would have to agree with you on this, for as a police officer, I have seen your typical cranksters out late at night stealing what ever isnt tied down. Its amazing what people will do to get cans, Copper Wire (this is huge), and what ever else they can find. I also believe that a lot of people make themselves victims, due to carelessness. I only say this is because people that are careless, leave their stuff in the back of their trucks or unlock cars are just asking for it to be taken.

Heres an example, For the past few weeks the city that I work for was having a surge of reports about people finding their vehicles ransacked and at times nothing was taken. People were parking their cars in their driveways or even open garages and not locking the doors to their vehicles. Well fortunately our patrol guys received a tip and was able to apprehend this subject and he admitted to all the vehicle break in and we even were able to recover some of the stolen property (this is very rare, for a meth heads trade stuff quick). Oh the best part, the night before this individual was arrested, he got caught red handed by an owner of a vehicle that he was looking through, well the home owner gave him a good ol beat down and when we contacted the owner he told us that he didnt want anything down, for he had already taken care of it (no, the owner of the car was not arrested).

Bottom line, make sure your valuables are in a safe place, write down all your serial numbers to your electronics and everything else that you would want to get back i.e. guns, cameras, car stereo (trust me this will helps us), use your homes alarm system and dont leave valuables in your car and lock your car doors.

Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and no you can not shoot someone just because they are breaking into your vehicle and no you can not shoot them and drag them into your house. LOL :D

Skeeterman,

Law and order in a society is everyone's responsibility not just law enforcement.

I have had 3 employees (1 guy had his stolen 2x) get hit. A stolen sawsall and less than a minute is all it takes. Yes they need to get these guys, along with them they should take down the low life scrap guys who buy their stuff full well knowing it is stolen. If tese CC's are not coming in from a legitmate business i.e. mufller/exhaust shops then there is a 90% or better chance that it was stolen. Livermore had a sting on several scrap dealers recently, busted one of them when the cop posing as a customer actually told the buyer he had stolen the copper, they bought it anyway. As jobs and economy falter, thievery will only increase.
