Lowrance GPS?

Post by Jason P »

I've been looking at the x-522C and the x-28HD, IS it better to get the 522C and get all the software or just go with the X-28HD. Or is there a better unit for the money, I mostly fish the delta.

Thanks

First off, I have both so I can do a pretty good comparison. From my prespective, it really depends on where you are planning to mount the unit. If at the console, I'd get the 28HD. It is much easier to see the larger screen when bouncing around at 60 mph. If you aren't wanting to spend all that money, go for the 27 and buy the Navionics or Lowrance chips. I think you actually get more data buy just purchasing the hard drive unit to begin with. The Delta is very well covered by the built in maps. You have tide and current estimation, depth contours, channel markers, even some of the older wrecks are all listed on the built in software.

If the unit is for the bow, where I have my 520, it makes sense to put the smaller unit there. You will mostly be using it in depthfinder mode and it's pretty easy to see a 5" screen for that purpose. I have a Navionics chip for the front unit so I can see contour lines for instance when dropshotting on a lake ledge. But with the way the water levels are down right now at all the lakes, contour lines are not as useful to me. I don't think you will go wrong with either unit but each has a specific application in my mind.

520 C for a front graph is awesome and I also have the X28HD for the rear. They are interlinked and work great. Cant ask for two better graphs. Good luck with yiour decision, Any Lowrance product Im sure you will be happy with.
