Alot of the water is Tannic - which makes it look as you describe. There are a lot of areas that also have extremely clear water, as they are spring fed. The beginning of the St. Johns river, as well as some lakes. I have fished several extreme clear water areas when I lived there.

Tannic water is clear water and you get alot of this time of the year because of low levels of freshwater comming in mixed with the mangrove leafs which turn the water in to tea color. Thats some of the very best water to fish.
