Love the team, hate Rivers. That dude is a punk loser. He has no class whatsoever, like LT does.

Re: Chargers win..........
That was a great win, or at least it sounded like it. I was fishing an Aim Sunday Series at San V today, listening to it on the radio, and when the Chargers locked it up I could see 3 boats with guys yelling and jumping up and down. You knew it wasnt for a big fish as the fishing sucked though there was one 10lber caught. Glad the Chargers could win on the road. Next week will be tough.....
Just gotta hope for the best. GO CHARGERS.

Re: Chargers win..........
The only difference between Phillip Rivers and Ryan Leaf, is that Rivers has better athletes on his team. If you look at how Rivers conducts himself, he has an amazing resemblence to Ryan Leaf. Had Ryan Leaf had this much talent when he was playing, he would still been playing. Ryan Leaf was, and still is, an a-hole.

Re: Chargers win..........
With so many athletes that strut and talk trash in the game today, why is everybody so up in arms that a QB is doing it? I don't really get it. Don't get me wrong I don't care for it, from anybody. I just don't get why Rivers gets piled on for doing the same thing that so many other players do.

QB's are held to a higher degree of responsibility. They are supposed to be smart. He is a sad little man.. One would think he would realize his place in the world, and act accordingly. How often do you see Payton, Farve, Hasselback, Mr. MVP chick magnet, Romo, just to name a few, jawing with fans and acting like a stupid idiot? Even Dingledork (announcer) was ashamed of him, and that dude is the biggest Charger homer alive.
Guys like that will get killed eventually, cuz the other team has no respect for the clown, and wouldn't think twice about lighting him up at the first chance they get. They are probably hoping for a shot... How often do you see defenses taking cheap shots at Farve?

I missed the game today because I was sleeping. I am working the night shift this week. Did Phillip Rivers do something today to make himself look like a fool? I know he acts like a jerk on the sidelines.

What a load........"QB are held to a higher degree of resonsibility, they are supposed to be smart" get real they are athletes not CEO's, Docters, Rocket scientists. They are paid loads of money to play a GAME a game that requires them to be competitive and win. He can talk all he wants as long as he wins games it will validate him as a football player.DougH wrote:QB's are held to a higher degree of responsibility. They are supposed to be smart. Man Doug...
I don't know what Dierdorf you are talking about, but the Dierdorf that I know hates the Chargers, he is usually poison for them when he does one of their games! When the Vikings' Peterson had that great game against the Chargers, Dierdorf was almost cheering out loud! He is not even close to being a homer.
By the way Art, Rivers is nothing like Ryan Leaf! He is completely different, he does not yell "knock it off," (T.J. Simers favorite line)
at reporters in the Locker Room, he aint talking on the phone during press conferences, he is nothing like Rivers! Actually, I usually focus on a classy individual like Tomlinson, who acts like he has been there before when he scores a touchdown, instead of doing some arrogant Reggie Bush somersault.
Either way, I am thrilled that the Chargers have gotten this far, that playoff loss last year just about tore my guts out. Back in 1995 I went fishing the same day they beat the Steelers to go to the Super Bowl, and then last year I stayed home and watched the Chargers lose that playoff game, so I figured that today I would try fishing again. It worked! I caught three bass at Castaic while fishing with Homer, and the Chargers won!! Go Bolts!

Re: Chargers win..........
I dunno, looks like he's just having fun to me. People want to ride his butt from the stands, while they just sit there and WISH they could have the talent to be out on the field, he gives it right back. No different than a TO, or Chad Johnson, Ray Lewis, or any other of a number of athletes in the NFL. Rivers just happens to be a quarterback. Favre is a major trash talker. He has the credentials to back his mouth up though. Rivers IS 17-7 through 2 full years. A lot of teams would give anything for that kind of record from a second year QB.

Re: Chargers win..........
My point exactly on comparing him to Ryan Leaf. It's every week. What makes this worse is that the Indy fans are not known as being vile or rude. Like Raider fans. They are pretty low key fans. They love the colts, but are respectful of other teams.DougH wrote:Ya, he got into a screaming match with some fans. Phillip Rivers does not show respect for anyone. One of these days, one of his very own linesman may just let one of those monsters from the other side of the line come rushing in. Good night Phillip. By the way, I am a Charger fan. I just like athletes that show class.
Re: Chargers win..........
Like I said, I love the Chargers, (not as much as my poor Hawks) but that dude is just a punk, and he will get his clock cleaned one of these days. Call it what ever you want, but I call it disrespectful.

Re: Chargers win..........
Its too bad you haters dont know how much Phillip Rivers helps out the under priviledged kids and families with disabled children. He is one of the most giving individuals in the NFL. His foundation pays for hundreds of disabled kids to get theyre medical needs taken care of. How can you say things about somebody you dont know?
He isnt a punk, hes a competitive athlete that gets into the game and wears his emotions on his sleeve almost as much as some people do bass fishing. The media and coaches say go out there and hit 'em and hit 'm hard, take theyre heads off, have no mercy....etc... and you want him to act like a wussy? I dont think so!
He is nothing like Ryan Leaf, this guy is a quarterback in the 'NFFrickenL' and a damn good one. He talks fine with the media, his competitors and with his teamates. The Chargers never gave up and fought a hard battle all the way down to their own goal line with 1st down and goal with only 1 minute remaining in a playoff game against Payton Manning and the World champion Colts. They never gave up!
I think the Patriots will have a tough game against this defense.
Just my .02cents!
Later; Big Ed!

Re: Chargers win..........
I don't know about Rivers talking trash to the fans, he was just mouthing 'Thank You' a couple of times leaving the stadium early for a check up on his leg. I thought he may of been doing it to a group of S.D. fans. How do you know if he wasn't?
And if it wasn't to fans, maybe he was getting even at folks probably screaming cuss words back at him, things get testy in playoffs. At least he wasn't cussing or flipping 'em off.
Great job Chargers. Too bad they did not give them that well deserved interception return touchdown just before halftime... robbery.
PS Thanks Big Ed for the info, did not hear of any of that charity before. Sounds like a big man to me.

Re: Chargers win..........
Ed,
No one is hating on the Chargers. Like I said, I am a Chargers fan too. I just don't like the way Phillip Rivers conducts himself during games. You can call it getting caught up in the moment, or whatever, but this guy is supposed to be the team leader. How does his antics get the team fired up. On television, he on occasion, looks like a fool.
On more than one occasion during a game, the cameras would pan to a hostile Phillip Rivers acting like a jerk on the sidelines. Was he not repremanded once during the season for giving the fans the finger.
I know that you can't see this happening at home games, as I know you are at the game, but they show it plenty on television. And the commentators don't show him much love either, when he acts this way.
I would guess that if the Chargers were not winning at the moment, these sideline outburst would not be tolerated by his team. And they should not be.
I don't know anything about Phillip Rivers, and his charities, but I know that Drew Brees had, and still does run his locally. In my opinion, and this does not count for much, I still think the Chargers let the wrong quaterback leave town.

Norv Turner has done an outstanding job. Not just getting the players to give their best all game, but in making adjustments early in the game, and throughout, to counter the other team's scheme.

Re: Chargers win..........
Drew Brees is way better than Rivers. You're kidding yourself if you think Rivers is better. I agree with you Art about Rivers' antics. He looks like such a whiner. How many times have you seen Favre or Elway shouting at the fans or flipping them off?
Re: Chargers win..........
Who claimed that Rivers was better than Brees? Rivers may have more upside and physical tools but I don't think anybody will claim he is better than Brees at this point.

RangerDude,
You need to go back and re-read what I wrote. I never said his charities don't count for much. I said that in " MY" opinion, which does not count for much, that the Chargers let the wrong quarterback leave town. I would have prefered that they kept Drew Brees. This is just "my" opinion only.
No one understands the importance of charities more than I. My extended family has first hand experience in how charities help families. Ronald Mc Donald House, and Easter Seal, to name two of them. They were there for my family members, and to this day I support those two charities.
In all the major sports, you have athletes that support charities. Some of these people are not what you would call the best citizens in the world, but they give to charities because it a major tax deduction for them.
Remember Albert Bell, who played with the Cleveland Indians. The guy was a total jerk, but he contributed to charities for the tax break. This is the same guy who was in trouble for chasing kids from his house on Halloween night.
I am also not saying that Phillip Rivers in in the same class of people as Albert Bell. No, they are complete oposites. If Phillip Rivers supports charities for the right reasons, then God bless him. I just want to see Phillip Rivers act like he has been here before. He is to old, and talented, to be acting like a little kid.
I believe that this thread is getting completely out of hand, and it needs to be moved, or pulled. I hope the Chargers win on Sunday.
