Carbon fiber handle

Post by R.Mac »

This is a pic of Cabelas"Mag Touch" spinning rod. I seem to remember seeing another rod builder who uses this type of handle . Anyone know who that would be? Thanks, Rich.

The Lamiglass XMG50. These line of rods use this handle. I have a 703 in this model. Great rod!

ESOX Rods just introduced their series of carbon fiber rods. They have four casting rods and one spinning rod in the series. I will have these rods on display at various tournaments. Please stop by and check them out. If you would like to see one of the carbon fiber rods or any of the other ESOX Rods please let me know and I'll try to get together with you.

The rods you have with a carbon fiber handle, do they have no foregrip and a split rear grip? That'd be sick!

I've own the Lamiglas XMG50 rods, still have a couple. The fiberglass handles looks cool and I'm unsure if it makes the rod more or less sensitive. But one thing you should know is in the summer, that handle get's HOT!! I think I prefer cork for that reason!

201Pro, that's the first thing I thought of when I saw the picture.

What's the concept? Less weight, more feel, shortage of cork?
I had to come back...I know...

It's for less weight and extra sensitivity. It does get HOT! Pretty cool feel though. I use the one I have for jigs and some T-rigs. Don't use it much anymore though. Anyone want an XMG50 703 let me know. It's a 703 but feels more like a 704. I'd let it go pretty cheap.
Now, for a great look and a super light rod... I've been switching over to Steve's Custom Rods. I've been having mine built with no fore-grip and a split rear grip but with the black foam. The black foam looks super good and it's lighter than cork.

The casting rods in the carbon fiber series of ESOX Rods have a small foregrip and a full rear grip. Their carbon fiber series spinning rod has a small foregrip and a split rear grip. These rods are very light and extremely sensitive.

I believe that the handles are woven graphite, not carbon fiber. ESOX Rods uses the same type of handles on their carbon fiber series of rods. The blanks used for ESOX Rods' carbon fiber series is a "High Modulus/High Strain Rate" fiber combined with a carbon fiber scrim. A new space age resin system coupled with a proprietary carbon fiber reinforcement techniques makes this a cutting edge graphite material. Blanks manufactured with this material are the lightest, strongest and most sensitive blanks made. The rods are up to 40% lighter than standard graphite models, and much more sensitive.

I've built rods with carbon fiber grips. They're actually a little heavier than a split grip handle, but a heavier rear grip helps balance the rod and so weight is not an issue. The carbon handles seem to amplify the vibrations from the blank, making for a more sensitive rod. I love the carbon fiber grips for cranking rods. Here's a rod I built a while back.

had a custom rod built with that handle. oh yea it was light, sensitive but
it was slippery when wet and the handle is too prone to getting fraided. and scratched.
get a c/b fiber in ur hand and see how infected it gets. sorry as good as it looks its not worth it.

I have some rods with carbon fiber grips that are a couple of years old, and they aren't faded and I've never got a splinter from one. There are several manufacturers of carbon fiber tubes, maybe you had a bad one...

I fish a lot of Lamiglas rod models with the carbon handle. I was not enthusiastic about them at first, but after fishing them for a year, and in lots of rain and cold conditons, I can say that now they are my favorite handle. Unlike a previous post suggested, my experienced is that the Lamiglas graphite handle provides a better grip even when wet. No chance for a splinter in these handles. I appreciate that even after a full year of tournament use the handles still look and perform like new. Even though I have fished them in 90+ degree weather on Potholes and the Columbia, I never noticed the Lamiglas handles getting hot, nor cold in the winter. Give them a try and see for yourself.

I have two of the lamiglas rods with the carbon fiber handles and I have to say that they are not my favorite rods. I have not looked at the specs on them but they seem to be significantly heavier then cork handled rods. I use them for heavy cranks and they just wear me out. They do have nice "gription" in the rain.

I also have a couple XMG 50 rods, It really does have good grip in the rain and amplifies the feel.

Looks linda like an Airrus, but an Airrus is a solid blank with a flared taper that makes the blank itself the grip and adds incredible sensitivity... Not sure about the other rods mentioned here.

Tackle Warehouse sells them as well.
