Dobyns 765FLIP or 766Flip?

Post by YoungManFishin »

One of these will be my first flippin stick. But what are the purposes of each one have different actions? Med/Hvy and Hvy? I always thought flippin was flippin. I'll be using it in the delta if it helps with the feedback. Thanks.

Hey Y.M.F,
My suggestestion would be to get the 766Flip. I have the 766 and I say its better to have to much power then whishing you had a little more backbone to horse that big girl out of the tulles or cheese.

The 766 is a better "heavy" flippin stick, punchin grass matt, heavy weights and jigs. The 765 is more all around flippin stick, wood, tules, grass etc. If I was to pick one, it would probably be the 765 for it's versatility....both are outstanding choices for flippin sticks.

hope this helps,

I assume from your pseudonym "YoungManFishing" that you are young and in great health. If that is the case, the 766 would probably give you outstanding performance that you are able to sustain all day long. That stick can also be used for other heavy applications like froggin so one rod fills several needs.

When you get older (like me), its not as easy to swing the bigger stick all day long...especially for several days in a row. Since I fit in that category, I prefer the 765 because it is a little lighter and over extended periods of fishing, it helps me keep fishing longer. They're both great rods so you can't go wrong with either one.

Thanks for the input guys. I think I'm gonna lean toward the 766 just cause of the abilty to double as a frog rod. Do you think it could handle the smaller swimbaits as well? Don't get confused, I will be gettin a Mike Long swimbait rod in the near future.

Pesonally, I prefer to throw smaller swimbaits on a rod with more tip action than you get from a very stout rod. Actually, my first choice for small swimbaits is the 735C. It is a little shorter and has outstanding hooksetting power and the tip provides good indication of strikes and action of the bait.

Like everything in bass fishing, my own experience doesn't make it "right" or "wrong"...it's just what works for me. The best "test" is for you to try one out on the water and draw your own conclusions.

Young man...I have both these rods and love them..I don't know how old or big you are, but I also flip, pitch and frog with the 735..It is a very well rounded stick.
