talk to me about darterheading
best darterheads? recommended sizes? good trailers to use? some techniques and tips? best times to use? i hear about darterheading but info is hard to come by. thanks.
Re: talk to me about darterheading
owner bullet type-z and sled heads have worked well for me, can't contribute much about technique since I'm still learning where/when too. I find that I use darterhead in spots where I'm after a light texas rig setup, but go to t-rig when I need heavier weight. not to hijack but I'd be interested in hearing about usage differences between d-head and t-rig.

There was an old legend about a guy that could catch fich on a rubberband with a darter head... 100 fish a day he would... They say his name was bassbones.....
Re: talk to me about darterheading
imo its one of the easiest way to catch fish. get yourself a melting pot a darter head mold..Do-it makes a good one and get some lead(I use the big round 2lb river weights or the lead that divers strap on when diving) go buy a hundred pack of mustad hooks and start pouring. I primarily toss a 1/16 or a 1/8oz head depending on what depth I'm fishing at. the spiral effect you get with the 1/16oz head is important imo..looks like a dying baitfish on its way down to the bottom. roboworm and pro worms both make a sweet worm for d-heading and don't get crazy with the color selection of yer worms ya dont need them all..keep it simple baitfish and craws bright colors in low light and more of a natural color selection when the sun is up...hope this works for ya!
Re: talk to me about darterheading
Try out the Limit Lure Dartheads...i get alot of positive feedback about them...they are at the sac fishermans warehouse
Re: talk to me about darterheading
21 farms.... dartheading is a great way to cathc fish as well as get feel for the type of bottom you are fishing... You can fish it really really slow or really really fast....... what specifically do you want to know?
Re: talk to me about darterheading
i actually like the shakey head as to the dart head. i use a 1\8oz to
3\8oz depending on the depth and how fast i want it to sink. My favorite worm is the 7" trick worm by zoom.
that being said i will dart head also... i like a heavy dart head 1\2 football head.

My favorite way to fish!! Lamiglas 663 3 power rod Shimano Sedona 1500 reel 8lb P-Line in Floroclear. I have been called a witch with a darthead !!!!
I tie them on backwards, put the worm on upside down , and I set the hook way to hard !!! but it works for me.
But this guy is the master!! Read on

Hipster is being way to modest....
I learned how to darthead on Lake Shasta, I finally went I am going to "get this technique" Ok so what I am about to tell you is TOP SECRET information.....shhhh. Your first tendancy is going to be to OVERCOMPLICATE the technique, and think we are holding out on you...... but we are not.
I start with a 1/8oz darthead (i use dartheads that are poured by Justin Nelson, if you would like his info, IM me) I also stock just a few 3/16, 1/4, and the lil guys but 1/8th is my GO TO weight. The Limit Lure makes a good darthead and Gammie makes a good darthead. I prefer Gamkatsu hooks on my dartheads. I also use 8-10lb Flurocarbon if you are going mono 6-8.
Worms used, I really REALLY like the Pro-Worm paddle tail, Robo Worm 4 & 6", as well as Flirts.
The when or where I fish them.... when I look down at my graph and see a ball of bait or suspended fish, I pick my my darthead toss it down a little behind meself....the darthead goes down with a spiral circle of death and is either intercepted by a fish (awseome) or reaches the bottom. Once it is on the bottom it is a shake, shake shake, Lift and drop.... if you are covering open water suspended fish then its once you hit the desired depth Shake Shake Shake, lift and drop. Most of the times I get bit on the fall, if not it is on the drop after the lift and shake action.... its really that simple.
