more help aginst the Quaga

Post by stan vanderburg »

I just got off the phone with Lane Gergely to say thanks to she and Tony for taking the time to go over this problem with us on the radio. These people appearently have the product to help us with the new formula Catch and Release. While talking with her she said that the larva dont live more than an hour in a dry enviornment. The only real or probable way a boat trailer might transport them would be on a wet trailer bunk. Buuttt...
If we desolved some the Catch and Release into a spray bottle and sprayed the bunks of the trailer before we put the boat back on the trailer it will definetly help to kill the larva. So saturate the bunks of your trailer real well before you pull your boat out next time. It certanly wont hurt.

What are the long term implications of Catch and Release on carpeted bunks? Will this in any way deteriorate the carpet? Has this been tested before?

Kevin and others, The old formula was green. If you have not seen
the new formula it is a light blue. The disinfectant is safe for nylon, neoprene and other materials. It is widely used to disinfect equipment that can't be exposed to oxidating chemicals. We have
a product called Net Guard that is used by professionals to disinfect
nets and other material equipment used in hatcheries and raceways. Just remember that the veligers don't live long out of water or a wet, humid conditions. I told Stan that we were asked
by another company to formulate a tournament bag disinfectant that can be used in a spray bottle. Maybe we should do that. Several of the components in Catch And Release are for fish health,
which is not needed in this application.

Mark, Bass Pro Shops has the new Catch And Release formula. You can order it online if you don't want to drive.

Something that really has not been talked about are the weigh in
bags. They are even better vectors for spreading veligers, as well
as other pathogens than a livewell. Tournament bags definately need to be disinfected if they are going to be reused.

Lane,
I help out for a couple of tournament trails.
I'll mention that to the directers.
It's a good point.
