Don’t despair – You do have a vote!

Post by Marty »

The situation we conservative find ourselves in is one where we have no one in the Presidential election that shares our values. The masses associate republicans with conservatives, which is not the case. Take John McCain he is a republican but he is no conservative. I find myself in the same situation as I did in 2000 and 2004, voting for a Moderate and not a conservative when in my hart I knew that there had to be somebody more conservative to run this Nation of ours.

The current situation is our fault, since the last election we conservatives have been tell each other “Anyone but Hillaryâ€

Despair to go around on both sides of the aisle.

Post by Jeff C. »

It's too soon to tell but there may be controversy brewing on the side of the Democrats as well. Democrat officials in coming up with the rules of the primary system have decided to include several hundred "Super Delegates" in the nomination pool. These Super Delegates are big whigs in the party and get to have their votes count in the delegate total required for nomination.

What this means is that it is quite possible for one Democratic candidate to win a majority of the delegates awarded by the states but lose the nomination because these Super Delegates support the other side in greater numbers. So far, Clinton has a greater number of these Super Delegates pledged, primarily because they pledged early when she was the inevitable nominee.

In the general election I will support the Democratic candidate that gets the majority of the state awarded delegates. I will not vote for a candidate who wins solely because of these Super Delegates in spite of losing on the basis of the state awarded delegates. It's looking more and more possible that Clinton will win in this way and if that happens I will write in the name of Obama.

So you see Marty, there's likely to be a lot of unhappy people to go around on both sides.

"Election dynamics sure have changed over the past few decades. In the past, conventional political wisdom stated that 40% of the people would vote Democrat, another 40% would vote Republican, and the middle 20% were up for grabs. Thus, the general election strategy was to craft a message to attract those voters."

"Now, we face a different set of dynamics. The pundits talk about "polarization," meaning that more and more people are set in their beliefs and that 20% in "the middle" is shrinking each and every election cycle. The election strategy has moved from message to turnout. Get your people to the polls, and you will win. The question for the Republican establishment is, "How are you going to do that in 2008?"
