Best place to stay if fishing Clear Lake

Post by CJ13 »

I will be a first timer to Clear lake this April and I was wondering where is the best place to stay (hotel, campground) where I can keep my boat and charge it as I plan on fishing for at least 3 days. Also if anyone is willing to give info on spots to fish on the lake this time of year, any info would be very helpful. Thanks.

I usually either stay at the State Park (cheapest) or at the Kelseyville Hotel ... Tell the owner you're a bass fishermen and he'll give you a fishermens discount. He has a lot next to the hotel where you can plug in the boat and is under a light post. Plus there's a trailer (I think someone lives there) next to it to keep your boat company! :)

I have stayed at state park before and enjoyed it. The parking lot by the ramp has outlets to charge your boat and campground has showers with hot water (bring quarters). It is also not far from most places on the lake. Shag rock is a good place to start (I went there my first time on the lake and caught my personal best). Also State Park and north to Long Tule Point were good to me :)

Have fun and watch the reports as your trip approaches...

I always stay at the Edgewater resort in Kelseyville. They have a long lighted dock with power outlets. I leave my boat tied up and plugged in. The dock is very easy to find when making nite runs.

Try ferndale between konocti and the State Park. Has a dock for the boat, some nice rooms, and a really, really nice restaraunt. It is also within like a minute of shag rock and Buckingham.

I highly recommend Ferndale Resort in Kelseyville http://www.ferndaleresort.com/

Kyle, the owner, knows what the bass fisherman need and has done a great job updating and remodeling the resort over the last couple of years to accomodate bass fishermen. And from what I hear...he has some great plans for the future.

They have gas pumps on sight, great slips with power for charging, a launch ramp, BBQ's and picnic tables, an on-site boat mechanic and a restaurant that has an impressive menu and a great chef.

The prices are very reasonable and the convenience factor of being in the middle of the lake gives you an easy run to tournaments held out of Konocti Harbor Resort or Konocti Casino to the north. The wives will likely want to visit both if they are not out fishing with you. And they are an easy drive by car.

By the way, there are very few bass available in front of the Ferndale breakwall so don't waste your time there.

I must concur with all the reports about Ferndale. As far as the restaurant; the Baked Alaskan is to die for.

Oh, and don't throw a 7" Senko to the first bump on the wall just north of the ramp.

Peace,

Ferndale is very close to a great restaurant called Zinos. I've known Zino for years. He serves great Italian cuisine. He had a restaurant on the square in Sonoma for a long time before moving up here.

we stayed at lake escape resort our last trip, for the price it suited 3 of us perfectly, nice secure place power at the dock, parking was adequate if not a bit tight, lauch ramp works, we had a 3 king room with a kitchen, built in bbq's in front. clean and comfortable is how i would best describe it.
good luck

Personal favorite would have to be Ferndale Resort. Couldn't ask for much more with regard to the accomodations and the whole ambience. The staff is outstanding and always accessible. Plenty of dock space straight out from the hotel; well-lighted, with plug-ins, fuel dock and easy access to and from the lake. They have a locked lot next door where you can park your trailer (and tow vehicle if you like). Pretty much equidistant from all points on the lake, it's never a really long run from any spot you might be fishing and it's close enough to stores/restaurants/tackle shops in Lakeport to be convenient. For my money, you really can't go wrong staying at Ferndale. I absolutely love the place.
I can fish as well as anyone---it's the catching that sometimes eludes me.
