DEADLINE/DAY USE FEES
DEADLINE/DAY USE FEES
We have until Mar 17 for public input. Please send an e-mail to: jlaird@mp.usbr.gov; and voice your concerns. Local people who use New Melones are going to get the shaft. Valley & foothill folks use the lake & should not have to pay a DAY USE fee.

Re: DEADLINE/DAY USE FEES
There needs to be a place family and friends can go to enjoy the water without paying to get in. I,m 60 years old and as a kid we could go almost anywhere and swim & fish without paying. Soon there will be no access to water that doesn't charge a fee.
Re: DEADLINE/DAY USE FEES
obviously, none of us like to pay fees of any kind. i don't have a problem to pay a few bucks to launch or use facilities. if the money goes back into the lake and it's upkeep, as long as it is a reasonable fee, i'm all for it!

Re: DEADLINE/DAY USE FEES
Pay Cesar what is his due!!!!
Or perhaps you would prefer New Melones Reservoir to start looking like Berryessa ?
For 25 plus years we have had it free. Were did the funding come from to maintain the lake and the staff of personel to provide us the users for the last 1/4 of a Century !?
True we would hope it would be our tax dollars that has done this for us all of this time.
But when the pot is empty what then ?
Should we the users demand to keep it as a free service to us, even though the State and Federal has been diverting the funds to Maintain our Prisons, Schools & Highways at a ever escalating cost ?
Too help keep New Melones one of the Jewels of the foothills, for us to use . I will gladly pay 10.00 per visit, event though I realize that the taxes I pay are to go to the maintenance of that lake as well as the many others I use.
Perhaps the sting would be lessened some what if there was a usage stamp that I could purchase once a year for say $25.00-$50.00 that I could post on my boat or truck windshield or maybe a family pass could be bought with the condition of a Senior Discount offered ?
Do i like the idea of fees and use permits ? No more than the next person. But I have to be some what of a realist too. As the state population continues to grow and the strain to the system of our parks, lakes and other natural areas increases. I realize i would rather pay now to maintain them in a some what pristine condition now so my grand children will enjoy them.
When dose it all end ?........It doesn't !........You Know what they say about Death and Taxes !!!
And Yes Barberbob, You are right !!

Re: DEADLINE/DAY USE FEES
if the fee's collected at the area stayed in the area that would be one thing, but they are not. they go to general funds and then gets distributed to he with the most pull gets it.
mc clure dp coomanche and other places have seasonal fee's and they keep jumping in price. how long will it take to rise them at melones. bet the fees' will be $100-200 per year to start. (ruff quess) what the current fees at pedro mcclure or commanche. because thats how they will make them at melones.
your questions should be where is all the money going that is collected for the water contracts, house boat fee's, camping fee's etc and why is it not being used here. fee's collected here should stay here but they dont. why give more for less. what they collect will just be deducted from the current buget as alway is.

You are 100% correct in saying the the fees collected should stay their for the good of the park or public land they are intended for.
But you know as well as I do that is not the case. When our state is in ( as it always seems to be) in a financial mess as it is, the fees are diverted to the most pressing need of the State or special interest lobbyist. As in the case of our prison system or teachers union. Aren't they just as important too maintain too for the good of all ?
Just like the present situation on the Delta and the water that is being diverted so Kern County can keep it Subsidized farm land irrigated with subsidized water, so its subsidized farmers can continue to grow subsidized crops (cotton & tomatoes). Read the posting on what Kern County is trying to do with the stripped bass.
Now that ought to scare the bejebers out of you.
It really boils down to who's special interest lobbyist has the biggest stick to beat the the state senate over the head with!!
