Suspending crankbait?
Suspending crankbait?
Does anyone know of any companies that make a suspending crankbait. Not a long slender jerkbait. I am looking for one that still looks and runs like a crankbait. I know of the lucky craft bevyshad but I wonder if there are any others out there. I love to fish the junior D by specialty tackle but they are getting harder and harder to find.
thanks
thanks

Ambush Lures makes a shallow-running crankbait called the Pop Eye that suspends. I've only thrown it in the pool so far, but it looks like it will catch fish. I know I have some others that suspend too, but I can't think of them off the top of my head.

Norman DD22's are very nice deep suspending cranks with a classic look and very affordable. They come in alot of colors too. Always try your local shops first then use tacklewarehouse.com as a last resort to get em.

Bomber makes a number of suspending crankbaits.

You can also use suspend dots to modify a floating crankbait into a suspending model.

Enjoy.

Re: Suspending crankbait?
There are a ton of suspending crankbaits on the market. If you can't find the one you want in a suspending model use suspendots or strips. Place them directly behind the bill on the bottom. Use one or two dots at a time until you've found the desired buyoncy. You can also do this on ripbaits to get a suspending model to sink ever so slowly. Try it. It works...

Normans makes several different suspending crankbaits. One of my favoites is the DLN suspend +4.
First one in the box settles the nerves!

I've used the suspend strips to try and get some of my floaters to suspend but I put 6 strips on a bomber model A and it still would float, just slower. I am looking for a variety that dive to 4ft. and some to 10ft.

Just a word to the wise.
Make sure the Normans you buy suspend. I have a few that are stamped as suspending baits but they don't. They are good old floaters. There must of been a mix up at the plant.
I had to use around 7 grams of lead to get them to suspend.
Just a word of caution.
Besides that they are great baits. You can't beat the price or the results.

Re: Suspending crankbait?
You can identify DD 22 suspending baits by a loose ballast weight that is free in the body. Tipping them from end to end you can tell the difference between a regular DD and a suspender. (In the store, vs on the water.)
Suspending baits almost always need tuning with Storm dots or wire. There are many factors that can affect bouyancy. Weird ones like salt content of the water, temperature, fishing line, and even the barometric pressure.
Its a trial and error thing, but always fun to get them just right.
