thinking about going to 100% braid !?

Post by Guy Kelley »

Am I nut's ?

I have been thinking of going to 100% braid on all my rigs except my small drop shot spinning reel.

I would use some backing first except for the larger spinning reel for senko and small jigs, then the braid and finally about 30 or so feet of leader in trilene 100% floro. This is not about the larger swim baits because i don't fish em yet or have a rig for them.

The leader would be what ever I would want floro or mono or ?

The braid would be from 30-65 pound range.

I could even use this on my top water rig as well except to use about 40 yards of mono leader.

I think this would finally end my confusion of what lines to use !?

What is the best knot to use for braid to leader, inter floro or mono

any suggestions ? for brand , in a cost that wont break the bank~~~!!!

the best knot is uni to unit very simple knot.

as far as line that wont break the bank i would go with the new vicous fluro carbon or mono very cheap 800 hundred yards of fluro for 26 bucks.

i fished the 15# fluro at clear lake last week throwing jigs liine held up very well did not break and fish off.

used the 20# fluro on my top hook swimbaits

great line for the money

For the knot, I use the Slim Beauty knot as it is thinner and it goes through the guides of the rod easier. It is pretty easy to tie, and it is strong too. My dad caught a 10lber yesterday on braid with a leader using this knot and it held up just fine.

Here is a link on how to tie it: http://www.anglers-outlet.com/slim_beauty_knot.htm

I just started doing what you're thinking about. It worked best on my spinning rod ,20 lb braid and a lighter leader. I think I want to try the bright yellow braid, with the green I cannot see it as well and with the leader the color should'nt matter.

Do not do it Brother Guy !!

#20 to #25 Floro on Jig's/Plastics ..... #25 Mono on Swimbaits ..... #15 Floro MIMIMUM for rip's and cranks.

These rocks will cut your line with braid any witch way to sideways on any given day with Sunday included !

Braid =='s #80 for Punker/Cracker ... #65 for Frogs.
