Don Pedro tips???

Post by gsc686s »

I will be fishing Don Pedro this weekend for the first time, and I have a tournament on the 22nd. I have never fished the lake; I am unsure what the lake level is now. Can any one give me some tips?

by march 22nd the bass will all be on their beds making babies.

check the spawning coves this weekend and check the water temps, right now the water temps are around 54-56 degs getting just right for the bass to be looking for some beds.

lots of buck bass in the coves taking reation baits for the larger bass (females)..... check the........... Okay i'm not telling just yet.

yeah they are there ready to move in and spawn. (hint)

I've caught big bass all over that lake. most people will say swimbaits, but for really big bass on pedro I like Rick Hoover jigs or 12 to 14" deadly dueo green weenie worms. I rig them on a bubba dropshot using a 5/0 EWG Gammie hook on 16lb flro. put the hook about 2" above the dropshot weight, use a 3/8s or 1/2 oz. dropshot weight. On the jig I use a large pork or really big plastic worm or lizard. good luck on your fishing. :D

I'm with Rod, if ya know the bite, that swimbait can be a real kick up there, if ya don't, you can toss and be in fer a long day! My good friend Conroy Oakley turned me onto to a jig-n-grub pattern up there that just works! Toss a 1/2 oz brown jig with that 157 Yamamoto smoke/purple flake single tail grub! And those 7" 157 Kut-tails on a 3/8oz darter head, hold on! Or chuck and wind a 6-8" Cotton Candy Lizard on a C-rig!

There is a couple of tourneys going out on Pedro this weekend. Stick around and listen. I guide on the motherlode if your looking for a full day or half day. The bite is really good on Pedro compared to any of the other motherlode lakes. This lake can be tough on some that don't know what to look for. www.fishwrangler.net or email me at mike@fishwrangler.net
