Thanks for the help on the Scrounger

I made a couple modifications, and the bait swam very well. Went out yesterday and all the fish I caught yesterday except one senko fish, were on the Scrounger.
My buddy was asking me what is that thing called?
We didnt have any big fish but it was putting keepers in the boat.

I had fish coming off easily. Lost 2 at the boat, then when I would sling in the others they fell off on to the floor.
Whats up with that?

Hope I could help Dave. I would file the hooks, if they are anything like the old scroungers from the saltwater days they needed a nice diamond file to them a few times. Also too, perhaps a small color mod , a splash of chartruse or a strategically placed black dot.....

Your help was the best of all!!!!
The hooks on the new ones are Gamakatsu and very sharp. I couldnt understand why they kept coming off.
I'll do the other as well.

I've found the barbs on Gamakatsu hooks tend to be small. That may be why they're coming off.
HH is right about the old saltwater scroungers. Hit 'em with a diamond stone. At least they have a decent barb.

Dave, the problem with under size hooks on Scroungers goes way back to the original lure invented by the late John Waters of San Clemente.
I doubt that you have the original Scrounger or even the knock off Wiggle heads. You should have the Aaron Marten's Scrounger made by Scott Kolbinsky and his son Josh. Aaron's Scrounger are made with Gamakastu hooks, so sharpness isn't the issue. You can trim back the lead tube around the hook to give you more hook gap, or use a larger size Scrounger that have bigger hooks and trim back the lead.
The action you want with a Scrounger is a very tight wiggle similar to the original floating Rapala. The best soft plastic trailers are the Sluggo shaped. You are looking for a shad or trout profile in those colors.
I have fished Scroungers since the late 80's and they work very well. Good luck.
