Thiers a lot of good aluminum boats out there but I think the Aluminaweld is a very good one.With a Yama 4stroker would a good set up.
Like I said theirs a lot of good ones check them all out and find the one that suites your needs of what you want in the boat.

xpress boats are nice, triton not even close for the price, g3, limited storage, and over priced. bang for the buck, i have to agree with the tracker. hard to beat that merc. package and affordability. alumaweld are probably the overall best built, but very limited selection.

we all know how the winds in California get...... especially in the bigger lakes that have huge bays.. i would second a aluminum rig. there has been a few time i traveled all the way up to clear lake for a three day fishing trip, just to fish all my heart can take. usually those trips involve fishing from sun up to sun down. if the winds come up like they do commonly i hate heading in!

i do not mind rolling over a few swells and fighting a few rollers just to hide and keep fishing. but i rather do it in a little heavier vessel that will not be so easily blown around. i think controlling a glass boat is a lot more easier in a glass boat versus a aluminum.

i have not experience driving a aluminum boat though those swells, straight or diagonally across.

i have seen some high HP powered aluminums on the river (150+ )
i hope one of those owners come on and shed some light.

Hey Jigs I have been researching aluminum boats for a while as it is what I want. I really want an Xpress. the closest dealr is in Texas I believe..... so I have been looking for a used one. as far a boat with a dealer base the triton is the best built aluminum around. The boat is all aluminum compared to a tracker which its not. the G3 is second in my book..... take a look at them if you can.....

Triton makes an awesome aluminum at a very reasonable price. They are tournament quality boats, just aluminum. They come in 16'-19' models in 3 different series.

I would vote for Xpress hands down, not even close. Their high end tournament boats are VERY nice, and FAST! Having seen these boats at the dealer, they are very well made and offer some nice features. After looking hard at the Trackers (which also have greatly improved their quality in last few years), the Xpress boats are in a much higher class of boat. Fit/finish is excellent, as are the welds, paint, storage, deck lids etc... Once you see one, you'll recognize the quality immediately.

Otherwise, I think the best was the Tracker Avalanche series, which I guess is no longer made.

Take a look at this review article of 5 major brands. It might help narrow the search.

I have a Triton 186 Magnum w/ a Yamaha 150. I would highly recommend this boat to anyone looking to purchase an aluminum bass boat. Ride + -- Top end ++ -- Gas mileage +++. With the factory paint job you can barely tell that it is a tin boat.

These other boats may be better in some way, but i love my Tracker!!
I have a 2005 tournament 18-v and it does fine on 85% of the days (Sunday on Berryessa was an exception; if only I cuda' gone ta the creek!!!.

I've been out on almost all the glass boats in club and pro am events, and yes there are advantages. At Gone fishing they know my Tracker like the back of their hand and that's great for service or when they tell me over the phone where to install the GPS, and other tricks. This is my second Tracker. (It was the 13 year old Johnson 40 that made me get a new boat.) Don't discount the dealer network and established, profitable company, for parts etc., ask a Viper owner.

I was just askin cause I was in the same boat about a month ago. But when it came down to it My Triton explorer with a 115 opti was the same price as a tracker with a 115. This thing sips the fuel!

I dont But I do know that one of these would really help! I had one on my ranger and watched a pro park a boat on a ramp with one. No joke! He pulled straight up on the ramp to wait for his partner to park the truck.

How can you go wrong? Hmmm...peruse the old postings at the Tracker Owners for all the ways and reasons. Or ask owners of 80s era Trackers....

But to give the benefit of doubt, maybe they've improved quality control.

I love the boat for the money. There is a few things Im going to change to fit me. For the money you cant go wrong. Mine has a 115 and will do about 50mph with the stock prop. Yes I think it fits a 8ft rod. The lockers go all the way to the front of the boat. If your thinking about one galaxy marine will give you a test ride. Or if your local I can.

Jigs, I once owned a Tracker with a 60 Merc on it..It was an excellent fishing platform as long as the water wasn't real rough..Mine was a 17 footer, the extra 2 feet might improve the boats ride, especially in rougher water..It never really bothered me all that much, but at times it could get exciting..I think you will really enjoy the economy you get with the 90 on the back..
