Blown Yamaha need advise
I have a 1991 Yamaha 175 that needs a new power head. I live in the Redding area, I am thinking of taking it to Vic's Mobile Marine, just wondering if anyone has ever used him. I would take it to Oasis but can't afford it.

I HAVE A PRO V 150 AND VICS MOBILE MARINE REPLACED A HEAD GASGET AND REBUILT THE CARBS FOR ME. HES A MERCURY MAN BUT IM SURE HE WILL WORK ON THE YAMAHA FOR YOU. HE IS A VERY GOOD MECHANIC ON OUTBOARDS AND HE WILL DO A GOOD JOB FOR YOU. LOTS OF PEOPLE USE HIM UP HERE. I UNDERSTAND HES GOING TO BUILD A NEW SHOP PRETTY SOON. HOPE THIS HELPS YOU OUT A LITTLE. Don't overlook Bob @ Outboard Center, across the freeway from the Ramada. I know a few people who use him and they are all very pleased.

Most mechanics are crooks. Find yourself a Yammy specialist because there is only one common thing between 2stroke outboards. They are two stroke. They all have a different ignition, fuel system ect. Anyone can replace a piston but determining why it blew in the first place takes a master mechanic. Example: Evinrude uses a Ficht type injection system where the injector is able to precisely inject fuel into the cylinder. Mercury injection system is like any automobile--they open and close. Can you describe what the motor was doing when it blew?

Well from what I was told there was a water leak which went into the bottom cylinder and washed it.
