i was on clear lake wednesday evening till friday afternoon.

i did pretty well fishing aeras with mixed structure. biggest 5 for me was about 20lbs. i lost two fish possibly the same one, twice. it was the same aera on the same lure. i never had a trip where my rod loaded up so much and so often....i bet if one of you PRO'S were out there you proably would have got a 22-25 bag easy!!!!!!!!

........but.................i did loose two fish flippin/pitchin into the stuff, and had two break off...i was wondering what line is too light for clear lake and what is too heavey...i hate it when i get that tap tap and i set the hook to only cut my line...my 20 lb cxx was awesome but my 17lb florocarbon leader broke during a hook set...........for flipping or pitching should i use braid , mono , or florocarbon?

o yea in one aera i hooked a 7, 4, 3-3's and i think i lost one about 5. i left this spot and returned to it later in the evening and it was a replay i swear i lost the same fish on the very first cast again... it was horrible. if i did not get that 7 i really would have had night mares...
i think i need a few more rods!!

saLTY-,

Did the leader break off or did it break at the hook :?:

I flip and pitch Clear Lake with 16# or 20# Flourocarbon. I use a Med. Hvy Flippin' Stick for flippin' and a Loomis MBR843C GLX for pitchin'.

When I have broke off on a hookset it usually because I tied a sloppy palomar knot with twists in it and I get a little pig tail at the end of my line as a remnant of the bad knot.

i don't know what happened. i knew i was pitching into some timber and stuff...BUT ...17lb test fc leader just got sliced through on the hook set . i was shocked.....i am considering useing a 25lb test fc leader...especially when i am crossing my fingers and pitching at the same time...............
i think i need a few more rods!!
