Kill Switch Lanyard ?
Kill Switch Lanyard ?
Well after reading about the resent boating accidents I went out and bought the lanyard for the kill switch , couple of questions , how does it work on a Mercury Marine switch ? do you put the loop on the lanyard go over the switch and flip the switch up to the run position ? and do you clip the other end to your clothing or do you wrap it around your wrist like a jet ski ?
Re: Kill Switch Lanyard ?
Yes and yes. Clip it to your vest.

It sure is tought trolling when you have the lanyard around the wrist of the hand you use to hold the rod, or when you catch fish for that matter.
Re: Kill Switch Lanyard ?
Why would you be wearing the lanyard when your fishing ?
Re: Kill Switch Lanyard ?
With kill switch in down postion put loop end of lanyard above it and push kill switch to the up postion. Hook other end to your life jacket that way when you get up and take your jacket off it stays connected. Slightly diffrent if you wear inflatables. Jim
Re: Kill Switch Lanyard ?
interesting thought.
i have two PFD. i wear the inflatable SOS all the time and i have a non-inflatable floation vest connected to the kill switch all the time. when the big motor is on, i wear the non-inflatable over the SOS.
when i turn off the engine, i take off the non-inflatable, but i'm still wearing the SOS.
i know it's a inconvenience. but it's a pain i can live with.
i tell my fishing buddies.... the (floatation) vest you wear, is the vest that is going to save your life. so buy the vest you're going to wear all the time, while you're fishing. comfort.
that's my justification for buying a $200 PFD verses a $20 vest.
also my buddy mark gave me a great idea... if you constantly clip and unclip your lanyard, use a small carabiner. i like the quick connect, and it's big enough to operate when your hands are cold (or with gloves).
you can get the carabiners at home depot for $1.00 (cheaper if you buy them in bulk). it's not for rock climbing, but it has a safe working load of 150 pounds. it comes in several eye catching colors.

Re: Kill Switch Lanyard ?
Bad idea. If that inflatable goes off the flotation vest will compress the inflatable to your chest plus that non-inflatable will not fit properly over another PFD. I do know some of the SOS do not have a D-ring. Find a place to clip your lanyard to the inflatable or your belt and ditch the non in the locker. The carabiner idea may make that easy.stevey wrote:i have two PFD. i wear the inflatable SOS all the time and i have a non-inflatable floation vest connected to the kill switch all the time. when the big motor is on, i wear the non-inflatable over the SOS.

I "wear" it when I'm trolling.SHAFT wrote:Why would you be wearing the lanyard when your fishing ?
Re: Kill Switch Lanyard ?
Are you trolling on a jet ski? Put the lanyard on your belt where it belongs

I clip mine to my inflatables which I keep on even when fishing. There's always a good chance of being thrown overboard by a big wake.
The carabiner's a good idea. Thanx for the tip.
