Has anyone experience severe gel coat cracking?

I'm trying to determine the cause of some severe gel coat cracking found on my Champion boat. Champion is currently rehulling my entire boat at the factory. They are blaming this on the previous owner claiming the boat was "beached" at some point. I'm suspicious do to the sudden nature of the cracking and the entent of damage in areas showing absolutely no sign of scrathes! There was signs of scraping on the very bottom of the hull before I bought this boat but I didn't notice any gel coat cracking at that time. This looks to me like a catostrophic failure of the adhesives. Has anyone experienced anything similar to this?
