Hope you didnt get a ticket today at the A/C Delta

Post by Brian »

Sheriff boat was sitting inside piper writing tickets to anyone making any kind of wake, or who didn’t have their new stickers on their boats yet. They were holding up boats from weighing in their fish. Kinda messed up time to do that. No I wasnt one of the boats cited. Gene didnt look to happy either.

funny thing is.................. where are these boats when people really need them........towed a ski boat in that was broken down thursday..........they said they called every number they could think of, even 911 to get a tow.............2hrs later I ran by...........and YES i towed then to surgar barge from the other side of franks....funny how the tow boat is docked there................I know but..........they had 2 under the age of 13 y/o on the boat so I had to.......................other wise I would have considered it population control...............LOL......................cheers MEDFISH

RIGHT ON! As a home owner down here, I must complain they haven't been around enough! The continued parade of bass boats in and around the 5 MPH zones of Bethel island, have been nonstop the past 5 weeks. This is all too common this time of year, spring is coming and more anglers are out, fish are moving up in the shallower areas, guys are looking to git out of the wind, and 90% of these boaters are pushing beyond the limit! It's not just about levee errosion, but damage to personal property and our boats.

How many times does this have to come up before bass anglers realize that a 5 is a 5 is a 5mph zone? No wake, means NO WAKE! Unfortunately, these guys can't be everywhere all day long like the high way Patrol. So they'll park and cite where they have the most cause and effect! Don't blame the Sherref's patrol for doing their job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can easily be cited for a wake in Piper and be under 5 MPH. Heading up current your GPS can show 4.8MPH and you will throw a wake. People need to understand that 5 MPH also means no wake.

Fair Warning - BEWARE!

Post by kopper_bass »

Another thing that i saw all weekend on the Delta that is a violation and guys in Bass boats, ski boats, and almost every other boat broke the rule here and are asking for a ticket - not slowing down for a moored boat at a dock within 200ft.

A boat was moored again on that little dock on Old River, just after leaving Franks Track all weeekend, and not a single boat (except me) slowed to 5MPH as it went by. Clearly, that canal is not 200ft wide, so you are required to slow to 5MPH there. Some boats behind me even saw me slowing down, and still passed me on plane.

I saw the Sheriff out and about all week, so i was expecting him to be there; guess he chose Piper instead this weekend.

guys on here need to be aware of it and slow at that boat, or your gonna get a ticket. Guys on this site have already been nabbed for it.

It was just sitting there like trap waiting to be sprung. - beware!

Not getting nitpicky here, but any boat moving in the water is going to make a wake (of course, the slower a boat is moving the smaller the wake, generally)..But a six inch wake isn't capable of doing the damage a twenty-four inch wake is capable of..For the most part, conteolling your wake is really just a matter of speed and common sense..Some boats will put out a monster wake at less than 5 knots or mph, others will put out small wakes even when exceeding 20 mph..It is all dependent on how much water is being pushed by your hull..Gennerally speaking if you are going 5 mph or less with a bass boat you are not creating a dangerous wake..All of us have seen some of the big cruisers doing around 5mph that put out two to three feet of wake..Just use your head when entering these areas and slow down to where you are not putting a large wake in the water and are not exceeding the posted speed limit..

Wouldn't you be DQ'd by AC if you did indeed get a ticket? Or is that not in the rules? Just checking, did not fish but wanted to clarify for future.

:D You are absolutley correct. In most circuits if you are cited while on the water you are DQ'd for that day. Don't know if this applies to AC or not. It should. :) Bev Payne

Excellent point Mac,

If bass boats are pushing beyond 5mph you can usually tell by their bow lift. However, there are also homeowners that make a summer career out of complaining about any wake. If sheriffs are giving out tickets to bass boats doing 5mph in a no wake zone then they need to change the law to an idle speed zone.

Bev,

What happens if you are cited during the tournament and find out later that the sheriff or DFG officer made a mistake and you were found innocent?

I believe that if you were given a citation you will be DQ'd no matter. Your fish probably won't be weighed so there is not much that can be done. Sorry :D Bev

Last week a buddy and I were fishing just north of Russos (in the 5 mph zone) when a boat comes through the cut to Franks throwing out a huge wake. We yell at him to slow down cause of his wake and the a$$hole just ignores us and keeps going at the same speed. What a @&*%^. Next time I'm taking pictures of these morons and posting them here. I've had enough of these people that have no consideration for others. Time for their faces to be plastered all over the internet!

e thing about being dq is no one reports this to the tournament. you would have to turn yourself in or another compeitor would have to turn you in .. the sheriff or such doesn't report you ..

Well in that case, I really hope that no one doing the AC got ticketed. And if they did and didn't speak up.................. what a display of intergrity. Bravo!

 Wish i would have known they were watching wakes. I had one of the Sherrifs boats cut right in front of me in the 5 and had to hit the gas to get out of the way. No wonder the guy was giving me dirty looks.
