DVL Bass?

Post by Sinjin Kim »

I can't exactly remember when and where I read this, but in the article Mike Giusti stated he would expect a world record class fish come out of DVL within and X amount of years (I think it was within the next 5 or so years plus or minus a year).

It was also stated the bass at DVL are growing at an alarming rate. What I don't get is, with all the awesome sticks fishing DVL, why aren't we seeing as many 8-10# fish being caught on a regular basis? Am I missing something? I see a LOT of 4-6# fish being caught, but not too many above the 8-9# mark.

I just wanted to know what your opinion was on the DVL fishery. Are there a lot of DD bass swimming in the lake that have eluded many anglers? Are we seeing signs of striper competition already? etc...?

I am so envious and tired of seeing all the toads come out of the Delta and Clear Lake on a regular basis. I wish we had a body of water down here that kicks out as many DD fish.

I have yet to see a DD fish caught during a team tournament.

Did you miss Grover's 12lber?

But DVL is a dinkfest. People are better off fishing Skinner or Perris if they want to fish out here.

Sinjin,

Big ones are being caught on a regular basis. I promise you that one for sure. Maybe not as much by the 'five alive' crowd but it's happening.
My buddy got a 13 last year and another friend of mine got fish at 12, 10, and 2 8s back in Feb of this year.

So far its been 2 over 8 and 1 at 7 for me this year there after I got tired of playing 'games' at the lagoon.

But you're right, there are way more 2-6 pounders showing up.

I think the striper factor is definitely something to consider but the forage base and DVL's vastness is absolutely ridiculous so I think the massive growth rate that all the species are experiencing right now will continue for years before the peak and ultimate drop. Greg silks was talking about this yesterday and also mentioned since the lake is new it's still absorbing a very large amount of nutrients from the soil.

Mt. Lassen has planted 2,500lbs of trout for 3 straight weeks now. They're running up and down the banks like ants right now. That type of volume should keep the lake going for a long time.

Thanks. It all makes sense. I suppose if DVL was a shallow body of water like the Delta, catching fish in the DD range would be more of a norm and definitely easier to catch.

Don't give up on the Lagoon. Every last person I fished with at the Lagoon caught a DD bass out of there, including myself. That place definitely has a lot of big fish in it.

Man give D.V.L. some time.
The Delta has been around just a little longer. Casitas has as well.
Don't be so antsy.
D.V.L. will perform it is just a little early for it.
To grow, big a fish needs some help and also some luck.

Brian caught a 13.52 pounder two years ago. There are some giants in there for sure. I believe the depth of that place makes it possible for giant fish to remain hidden and hard to catch. If I was a 15 pound Bass in DVL, I'd be suspended in 40 feet of water year round.

some of the really small lakes haven't fallen into big slumps after the first couple of year classes of big fish, like most lakes seem to do- LMV for example- less pressure on the lake or better conditions kept at a constant? Who knows, but seems like DVL is going to blow up in a few years with giants, seems like the perfect place to do it

Hey Sinjin, I have an idea. If you sponsor Mike Long at all the DVL Tournaments, you will see loads of big fish as he takes all our $. lol Rick G.
Anglers Marine has been serving Southern California boaters and fishermen since 1981, with the West's largest bass fishing tackle store and the best boat dealership on the west coast.

I already have a problem with you and Kyle taking my money, lol.
Why would I want Mike Long fishing a circuit I'm involved in?
He has certainly raised the DVL bass record.

All of those toady fish came on the SB I should mention. But then again, that niche is all a bunch hype and just a waste of money. You'd be better off with 10 packs of kreatures. :)

there is a ton of big fish in DVL... especially for the short period it has been open. However, My uncle/tournament partner had the lake record.. 14.85 before mike long snapped it.. he also weighed in a 10.35 in a event... my 7.35 was beat out last wekend by hippies 8lb something.. you need to pre fish DVL more october through november and you wont feel this way.. i have 4 over 9 out of DVL and 7 over 8... i cant even count how many 7's i have caught and have seen people catch in the last year.. give this lake another 3 years and 25lbs will barely get you a check.

Damn some guy! those are impressive #s.

I'm just happy I've been able to get on the few nice green fish that I have. Not too bad considering the first time I fished that pond was 4 months ago.

your fish is a beast man.. i havent broke the 10lb mark there myself yet.. i had a frustrating 9.86 but thats the closest for me. I had one that was well over 10 bust me off on 25lb and took my swimbait too.. ate me right at the boat and i had my drag a little too tight..

The good thing about green bass is they dont know how long you have fished the place. Keep up the good work man.

my personal best is a 12lb 3, i have one over 11 and 6 over 10... but none of my DD came from DVL. Im trying to get this lake out of my way and on to the next. DVL and Hodges are my missions.

My numbers are nothing... now Mike Long's numbers are impressive.

Thanks man. I appreciate that as well as the rest of the positive attitudes on this site. I'd like to say lucky fish but then again I think it was probably more than that for me. I had some nice fish at the lagoon late last year and early this year but right now it's a complete clusterfuk out there so I'm trying to stay away for a while.

Sorry bout your lost piggy. On the bright side... it should only get better from here on out.
