I think its fixed in your head that just because youve seen Ike lose his cool a few times on tv, and dress "hip hop" that Ike is some sort monster... Blah Blah Blah...
I dont know what youre talking about when you say ask a kid...
Blah blah blah butt-hurt blah blah blah.
Maybe you have your kid watch fishing shows to figure out wether or not to do drugs or go to college. Because it sounds like you do. Thats your job buddy.
"The atonement can never make up for the damage", what the hell are you talking about, WHAT DAMAGE!!! What has he done thats so bad. You talk about him in about the same tone I would talk about Adolf Hitler.
Maybe you should start a hate Ike cult so you could attemt to brain wash some people into thinking the cynical way you do. I hope your child is not member number one in the cult, It sounds like he might be and if he or she is you should seek counseling.
Now there is obviously no convincing you but I cant help but try.
NEVER GIVE UP !!!!
Gee procraftrob... One would think you are Ike himself posting under the anonymity of a screen name.. Getting a little butt-hurt and bent are we?... Taking little stabs and jabs at me personally?... LOL... It's all good... LOL
Apparently I need to bring this down a few notches so that you can "see where I am coming from".
When I took my 9 year old nephew fishing and he lost a fish and threw the rod I lent him down on the deck and started having a hissy fit... I sat him down real quick and had a heart to heart talk with him. Apparently he felt it was what he was supposed to do cus that is what he saw Ike do. He had the impression that to be as good as Ike, he had to be overdramatic when he lost a fish. So we sat there and had a heart to heart and I pointed out that he never saw anyone else do this and KVD is a much better fisherman than Ike and you would never see him have a tantrum over loosing a fish. He never saw his dad or uncles act that way. And I explained that it is ok to be disappointed, but adults have self control. Only morons and wussies act out like that because they are too dumb and weak to control themselves like adults.
Now as Dean pointed out, a 16 year old is generally not going to be as impressionable. I said ask a kid, not ask a teen/young man. So by kid I am talking about a 6 to 12 year old range. Most 16 year olds are far beyond being that impressionable and are taking on huge responsibilities like cars and jobs. However, they are a few exceptions, hence the main reason for the disclaimers at the beginning of any episode of Jackass on MTV (a show I absolutely hate), but that is still a very small percentage.
I have a ton of nephews and a ton of friends who have kids who are into fishing. I was over at a buddy’s house and we were pouring worms in the garage, and his kids were playing video games in the house. He had to go inside 4 times to quite his 8 year old down. Every time he won, he went Ike, started jumping around the living room and was actually banging his head into the arm of the couch and was screaming "never give up", "never give up".
I told him, dude, you gotta stop letting that kid watch Ike. That kid worships Ike and watches every BASS tourney with intent looking for glimpses of his hero.
That friend is going though a process of getting the Ike disciplined out of his son right now. Dad had to sit him down and tell him he is not allowed to act that way...
Now how confusing is that for a kid?
So procraftrob, there is the damage I am talking about. Emotional damage... On the plus side it forces good parents into parenting their kids. On the bad side, bad parents let it go and continue and little Johnny is going to grow up and have a rocky road ahead because of it.
Currently my friend’s son is being disciplined for acting out like Ike. If he acts like that, he doesn't get video games for 1 week. My nephew now understands that if he ever throws one of my rods on the deck again and has a tantrum that I will never take him fishing again. He knows I love him and care about him and that I want to take him fishing, but not if he is going to behave badly.
So those are my two experiences with kids regarding Ike.... It was 2 too many if you ask me.
Do you now "see where I am coming from" procraftrob???
By the way... The First Holy Church of BASS Cult service starts at 11:00AM Sunday. The entire congregation hopes you will join us... This Sundays the sermon is titled "blessed be the Ike, for he shows us how not to behave".... LOL!!!!
Sorry about the confusion about what I consider "kids" Dean... You are spot-on the right path.. Look to the kids (pre-teen) and you will find the truth.
Good Fishing,
