Clean Boating Act 2008

Post by KMAC »

My marine mechanic sent me a letter urging me to write to legislators involving the Clean Boating Act. I quess it involves a two thousand dollar fee for all boats in this state to cover normal engine discharges like your cooling system. From my understanding the bill was designed for large comercial vessels but was poorly written and will cover recreational boaters as well. Has anyone else heard of this "Act" or is it some sort of alarmist propaganda ?

KMAC I can't find anything on the state website but if you can give me the legislators name who sponsored the bill or a bill number I will check again. If you want to check it out yourself go to

www.leginfo.ca.gov

My bad Mike...I guess it's a federal issue so we are urged to contact our Senators. "SCMA strongly encourages the boating world to ask Senators to co-sponsor S. 2766,the Clean Boating Act of 2008. SCMA urges folks to contact them at 714 633 7581 or visit a special website www.boatblue.org.
I am not much of a political activist and I am not sure who the good guys or bad guys are on this one. The letter I received said that fines based on citizen suits range up to $32,000 per day. A fine like that would really cut into my recreational funds.
