I just got off the phone with Pamela Francis Deputy Director Public Works for Lake Co. and she gave me the latest info. on the Lake County inspection/sticker program that starts on the 8th.
By 5:00 pm today the web site www.co.lake.ca.us/mussels and phone number (707) 263-2556 will be updated to include locations of inspection/sticker stations signed up so far as well as instructions, a questionnaire form, and an affidavit to sign. I haven’t seen these yet so I don’t know what all will be on them, however Pam said that it will greatly speed up the process if everyone has these filled out and ready to go when they arrive at the inspection/sticker stop.
The places that Pamela told me about for sure that have volunteered to be early am inspection and sticker locations for out of town boaters are Ed Clark at Tackle It in Lake Port and Troy Bello at Lakeshore Bait and Tackle at Red Bud. Be sure to support and thank these guys for stepping up to help make this work as they will most likely be two of the few locations you will be able to get early morning stickers and are taking time away from their business to do it. (Thank you very much Troy and Ed for helping us out of town guys) In addition to these locations most of the Resorts around the lake will be participating as well so they should be able to help you out if you are staying with them.
You won’t be able to get a sticker before the 8th, so if you’re pre-fishing for FLW or WON and will have your boat on the water prior to the 8th, Pamela said to call or go to the Visitors Center on the North Shore. They will be open extended hours. You will need the same forms filled out as well as your CF numbers for your boat, boat not necessary since it will have already been on the water.
As far as the inspections the requirement will be clean and dry. I don’t know how the rain will affect this requirement, but everyone knows that people fish rain or shine so it will be taken into account. It sounds like the answers on the questionnaire is what is going to determine your relative risk of transport and inspections will proceed from there. As I understand it, the county is working directly with WON and FLW to make contact with their boaters that will be coming from Mead and Havasu. These boaters will most likely go through a more rigorous inspection and may require some sort of decontamination.
Float tubes also need to have the sticker so for the guys fishing the Bass N Tubes on the 12th be prepared as well. They will work with you on where to put it.
Lastly, please remember that your inspectors are an all volunteer fleet and there will be some glitches until this thing has a chance to run for a while and it will be constantly evolving so please don’t take out frustrations on the volunteers. It will only make it more difficult to get volunteers in the future and make it harder for everyone to get inspections/stickers. Suggestions for improvements to the system should go to the Lake Co. Department of Public Works or the Lake Co. Chamber of Commerce.

Jay,
AWESOME Report! I know when you and I spoke last (night) that these were unanswered questions and concerns. I really appreciate YOU and all of the work your and your department have done in terms of working with the Board of Directors.
I really appreciate the Tackle Stores for stepping up as volunteers, what a great way to ensure that EVERYONE vists the shop prior to being on the water

I think Troy is at ClearLake bait and Tackle not Lakeshore bait and Tackle, they are right down the street from each other, Troy is at the shop at Red Bud.
Correct me if I am wrong but just trying to help out.

You are correct. Pam said that Troy Bellah ( I even spelled his name wrong, sorry Troy.) had agreed to doing inspections and I thought that she said Lakeshore but it is indeed Clear lake Bait and Tackle at the Red Bud ramp.
We'll just chalk that up to one of the many confusions that will happen in the next couple of weeks.
I just talked with Troy and after apologizing to him and he said that Dave Brabeck from Clear Lake Outdoors North (96 Soda Bay Rd) will also be a location to get a sticker and inspection.

Thanks Jay!
Now I won't have to sneak onto Reese's farm and peel the sticker off his hull.
( Him being the Pontiff and all, God probably wouldn't put any big fish in my wells if I stole Pope Jimmy's sticker!)
Thanks again - you guys are a great source of info!
Regards,
Bob
