I know times are tough and all

Post by Rick G »

but IMHO it stinks that we have to pay to now watch the BASS and FLW weigh-ins these days. Kinda like Little League Organizations have to pay to use the names of MLB teams on their jerseys. Nothing like good ol American Greed. Cant wait till the Ranger Dealer meeting to ask Irwin about that move. Rick G.

I think Rick's right. It's just greed. Now that they think they have us hooked, they're raking us.
I know both BASS and FLW are in it to make money, not to do us any favors, so it doesn't surprise me.
Too bad.
Another thing I won't be watching.

Just to offer a counter opinion to the one that seems to be prevalent in this thread. The costs to send a live broadcast signal across the internet is substantial.

Also note that there are a ton of people 'working' for FLW and BASS that are doing so on a small per diem only. Most of these guys that put these shows on are support guys that make next to nothing to do so. Yeah some might get gratis boats and some non-financial perks but that doesn't pay the mortgage or the kids college tuition.

BASS, because it's owned by ESPN, likely has little to no reason to go looking for an extra buck as they are broadcasters after all, but FLW is certainly not owned by FSN.

I would rather see them not broadcast at all then to charge for it  I'm sure they are making plenty of money already.

It is free for FLW members. Last person I would expect to have a problem with a organization covering it's costs is Rick Grover. It's 25 bucks and you get the best fishing Mag in print as part of the deal. The rest goes to feed one tournament pro a hot meal once a month. Small price to keep a fisherman fed IMO.

Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't the $25 dollars pay to see fee help pay for the Hundreds of Thousands of Dollars they are paying out in Fantasy fishing? Seems legit to me.

It is not the fact that they need to pay the cost of the broadcast, which I have no issue with, but the whole premise of FLW is really, like it or not, is it is a selling tool for Gemmar boat brands. A new angler wants to see what a FLW event is like, he now has to join. Just seems out of place for Genmar to me. Rick G.

Keep in mind Rick that you can still watch the Series and the Strens via the internet, you just can't watch the "Tour".

If you don't mind I will quote you from a few months back...

You have to play with Genmars Toys if you want to play in Genmars sandbox.

Nope, they even make you buy a Ranger if you want the full 1st place prize.

From what I hear that magazine is hard to get. FLW magazine comes every month right on time and has top notch articles. Hard for me to believe there is any better. As far as FLW selling Genmar products, plural, I would disagree. FLW recognizes one boat line. Never hear mention about any others.

Fantasy Fishing is free. But if half of the 750K that is playing paid the 29 bucks. Do the math...thats where the cheese came from. Erwin Jacobs gets it done, like it or not.

Referring to FLWLive, live weigh-ins on the Internet. You now have to be a member to watch the FLW Tour weigh-ins online.

So far, I can say that if I didn't get it included in my membership I certainly wouldn't pay for it! I have yet to watch one of the weigh-ins without losing one or more feeds (live video, leaderboard, both) for some duration... often for a majority of the weigh-in. No way in heck I'd pay for that... not quite ready for Prime time IMHO.
