Nutcase Bowling - May 17th (Come one, come all!)

Post by tunaman »

All,

Frank has been bugging me  to get a bowling outing together, and I know there are at least a few on the board who might be interested (Donkey Phua comes to mind!) in getting together for a social outing of laughs and such...

I want to plan it far enough out so that those who want to be present can plan for it, and also want to plan it around the tournament schedules so there are no exxxx 'conflicts'.

I'm thinking this would just be a fun outing, no costs aside from lineage and any food/drinks consumed, but might be able to get a few sponsors to provide a few incentive prizes for 'special' awards.

Let me know what you think, and whether you'd be interested? I'm figuring we can coordinate it for the first part of next month, and hope we can get many of you Nutcases to join in for the fun and frivolity! This should be fun for the whole family - all would be welcome!

Thought it through a bit last night, and this could be really good if we get enough folks to show... I think I can get some sponsors to throw in some product to give out and raffle, and the idea isn't focused on scoring... there would be a "card game", where you get to pull cards for strikes/spares and other 'good' shots.

Of course there's cold beer, that's nearly a requirement as they go hand in hand.

May even put together a BBQ/pool party afterward for anyone interested.

I'd probably be putting it together in Norco, as I have connections at the center there and can get some special considerations, and it is close to the house for the BBQ... I think it would be worth the drive if it works out the way I envision it could.

Need to get some more players lined up... c'mon guys, this could be a great event!

Looking at Basscalendar.net, May 10 and May 17 look like fairly open dates, although I see the FLW NG Lake Mead event is scheduled on the 10th and the Stren series will be up at the Delta on the 17th...

We've got Memorial Day coming up at the end of May, and I'm not sure that would be a good time to schedule as many may decide to head out of town, which would leave early or mid-June. I'll wait to see what further responses we get as to how hard to chase this.

John,

Bowling a 300 for a Dobyns rod is better than what they give us in league play. We only get $100.00 and a ring.

Elf bowling during Christmas. Sounds like fun. May 10 may not be doable due to the fed event. Regardless of the date, I'll open up the Jackall-Lures prize closet and kick in a few baits.

Sounds like there's enough interest to pull this together, so I'll start working up the logistics and shaking some trees for sponsor donations.

It won't be May 10th, as there are too many conflicts... heck, I'LL be fishing Piru also!

I'm leaning more towards early June, as that will give plenty of time to get lanes and goodies lined up and get it on everyone's schedule. The Winter leagues will be wrapping up at that time, so lanes should be more available as well.

JB - very generous of you sir! I have a feeling some are going to be trying a lot harder with a Dobyn's incentive... I may even have to give it a go!

Jim - got your PMs and will be in touch. If we're going to have a BBQ/pool party afterward it will have to be out this direction. Should be worth everyone's while, though, as those who have been over for one of our parties can attest.

Let me look more closely at the early June events and see what looks available.

Thanks to all for your responses and interest!

What's wrong with quiet little "Smell Segundo" where the sewer meets the sea. I have lived here since 1985 accross from Rec park. Love the place for the kids schooling - great school district. Plus my Auto shop / employment is here (Craig's Automotive).

About the bowling - Let us know the date and time and I'm in. Maybe I can put a face to the names here.

Excellent Byron - that's one of the main ideas.

This isn't going to be about scoring, unless you want to try for the Dobyn's rod that JB has offered up for a 300 game, but it is about the socialization, meeting new friends, putting faces to names, and having fun. We'll have a card game going for prizes, and will also hopefully be able to hand out goodies for those 'special' moments. This will be something that will be geared towards folks of all (or no) skill levels and ages, so come one, come all. It will be good times. More info to come... stay tuned!

Hey Byron,
Sorry, truly no offense. I am making El Segundo the brunt of my frustration, but it is really the company that made me go there, I will make the most of it though. You would have to admit,"It would be nice to live in an area where you see the stars at night and 7 miles from the lake (Cachuma). The Westside community is nice, but try and drive anywhere in LA...7 miles in 10 minutes.....It just doesn't happen. El Segundo does have some good restaurants and is a cool community and you can bet I will try and make a home out of it or somewhere close by.

No offense at all -- I could think of many better places to live but my work commute is only 10 blocks. Gotta love that. I grew up in Manhattan Beach right next door to El Segundo and joked about it as a kid all the time. Hell most people didn't even know it had a residential area.

Don't work for the big red R. I have a family run auto shop that my dad started back in 1959. It's Craig's Automotive at 123 Nevada St. over near the Chevron refinery. As far as clubs go I belong to none. I fished ABA and JT back in 96' and 97' but working 8-6 M-F kinda kills any prefishing so I just enjoy my weekends out on the lakes without the stress of the tourneys.

I spoke with the league coordinator tonight, and there is plenty of availability Saturday May 17th after cosmic bowling... we could do it from 5:00 - 7:00, then for those who are interested we could head to our house for a BBQ and party... got a pool table, big dining room table for a card game, pool/spa, etc.

Looks like the cost would be $11 per person for two hours of bowling.

Let me know how this sounds and who is definitely interested, and I'll put it together. Also, let me know who would be down for the BBQ so I can prepare the wife!

Thanks for the responses guys... this will be fun for sure!

Kirk - not having been at one of our parties, it is understandable... no one will need to bring a thing, unless they have a unique beverage need. The wife brings it on with regards to food, munchies, etc., and we pretty much have the adult beverage side covered! We have well over 200 bottles of wine, and most of the major (and minor) brands of distilled spirits. I usually pick up a couple of cases of Pacificos, some Rolling Rocks, and have several cases of MGD on hand. Oh yeah, and the wife usually keeps Coors Light on hand, so that usually takes care of the fermented needs.

If someone wants to bring something, they're more than welcome, but it certainly won't be necessary!

I'll be working out the remaining details as soon as possible, so check this thread often for updates.

Oh yeah, and we have a couple of spare bedrooms, couch space, the motorhome, and floor space for anyone who wants to indulge and not have to try to navigate homeward! First come, first served!

No Doubt! Roger and his wife (damn I wish I wasn't so thick in the head that I could remember names better :( ) put out a 5-Star spread. If you leave wanting it is because you didn't ask or you just don't know who to enjoy 1st Class hospitality.

Look forward to it again Roger...I got dibs on a place to rack out as it would be a long drive home...last time I just had to drive to the motel

Nutcase Bowling - Details and Sign-Up Pages

Post by tunaman »

(Sorry for the double entry, but wanted to be sure those who are interested see this link)

I've created a web page with the details and location for the bowling event, as well as a sign-up form for those interested. Please take a moment, if you are planning to come (definite or tentative) so that I can make sure to allocate enough lanes and budget enough food:

http://www.tunaman.org/web/AnglerBowlingEvent.htm

I'm in the process of soliciting goodies from some of the sponsors, and hope we will have some nice items to go along with the activites.

More to come...

HOLY COW!!! Rumor has it the Orso boys are going to make this deal, and they are in production with their handmade baits as we speak! WHOO HOO!!! For those who may be interested, you can talk with Dave and Rob at this event about their baits.

Dave has generously comitted 4 brand new production Orso swimbaits for our raffle as well!!! And if you don't happen to have the lucky tickets, I'd expect they may even bring some along for sale.

This is going to be AWSOME!!!

In addition, I'm trying to work with some other sponsors to line up goodies for the bowling and the raffle, and I'd be remiss without thanking Brian Day for offering up some Jackal goodies - you rock BD!

I have other contacts out to several potential donors, and I hope to have more information when I get back from Clear Lake. I've got a couple of "special requests" in and hope to get a couple of answers back from those as well. Remember - this is not for personal gain (except for the fun we'll derive from it!) - the entry fee goes directly to the bowling center and any money collected from the raffle will be put directly into the prize fund.

Thanks again to Dave and Rob for stepping up - that was unexpected and has me pumped up!

If you haven't had a chance to sign up yet, have been on the fence, or just don't think it is something you're interested in, I'd suggest you think twice and GET YOUR ENTRY IN!!! This is going to be large, and is going to be a kicking event for all!

Roger

OK folks - I'm going to have to firm up the reservations, so if you're contemplating please hit the sign-up form as soon as possible and let me know so that I can plan accordingly. I'll have to commit to the bowling center on Monday, so I'll leave the entry window open until Sunday night and then close it off.

The bowling center is working with me to see what discounts they can offer, so the costs may be less than what was originally stated.

I fixed an issue with the way the details page was linked on the web site, and it now opens into its own window as it was intended to. If anyone had problems accessing the page and entry form I apologize.

I've got some of the sponsor donations lined up, and am working to firm up the others... so far we have a really nice selection of products to use for the give-aways and raffles, and I expect to have more shortly.

Here's what we have on tap so far:
  • Dobyn's rod - 1st 300 game rolled (John Barron)
Golf outing - raffle prize (Buddy Brown (Tom Lee))
4 Orso swimbaits! - raffle prizes (oakview (Dave Roberson))
Jackal goodies - give-aways, raffle prizes (Brian Day)
Jim (BrushHogxxxx) has also mentioned some product availability, and I have to get back with him to see what he can supply, and I have PMs out to Rick Grover, Randy Y (Roboworm) and Bill Siemantel and am waiting to see if I can get small donations from them. I spoke with Rae El and he indicated he might be able to contribute, and have emails into Ken Huddleston to see if I can get a small donation of Huddleston product as well. I still have to contact Tom Phillips to see what he might be able to provide as well. We will have a real nice selection of products for giving and raffling out, so this should be excellent.

On top of that, the blow-out BBQ and after-party is shaping up to be quite the bash, and it is included no-charge... if you aren't into bowling you should still sign up and get into the raffle and the party... it will be an awesome social event for the southern Nutcases!

Hope to see you here... please sign up so we can plan accordingly, regardless of whether you plan to bowl or not.
