I agree. I got one and it's awesome! I was worried about backlash on the heavy baits but it handles casting like a charm. The retrieve is nice and smooth. Make sure it's the 400. 25lb maxima. I'm throwing it on the 7'6" XH Okuma.

the Curado 300 hands down no questions asked! I like the low-profile reels ALOT better then the Round reels. I fee l you get more contoroll out of the bait when your casting those big baits!

A bit of a hijack...
Why the love for the round frame reels? What more do you get out of them as opposed to a low profile reel?
Hell, I'm tossing 7" Ospreys with my Shimano Castaic (yeah, sounds kinda stupid, but it is super-free with the High efficiency gearing) and that dang thing works great.

Sorry and thanks

Why do people like diawa's over shimano's??? It's just like everything else, personal preference.

For those of you who use the curado 300, how do you like it for the smaller baits, mattlures, missionfish, etc???

I havent thrown any Mattslures, But I have thrown the 5 6 and 7 inch mission fish on it and its just like throwing a crank bait with this reel. The heaviest bait Ive thrown on it would either be a BBZ-1 or a Hud ROF5, which ever is the heaviest. If had had more then one I would use it for punching matts as well!

I am a diehard Curado guy but for my big swimbaits, I go old school. ABU Garcia 4600 C4.

Abu-garcia c-4, Work great and only about 60 bucks at wal-mart. I have the Currado 300 and cardiff 400, corsair 400 (corsair's suck). The shimanos are better, but not 100 bucks better. I have thrown hudds and tripple trout on it for about 2 years, no problems.

The Cardiff 400 for huds..If you want to spend more the Diawa Luna..I use the Cardiffs. The 300 is what I use with smaller swimbaits.

Dumb question, what gear ratio is good for swimbaits?

I know alot of people like the slower gear ratios. Like the 5:1's. The Cu300(to my knowledge) only come in 6:2.1. Which I personally like. Ive heard it said many times before and I have said it a few times my self, You can ALWAYS slow down your retrieve speed but when a BIG GIRL hits and is rushing straight at ya, you are going to have some trouble picking up that slack with that slower gear ratio and can possibly lose that fish where as if you have a higher gear ratio you can pick up that slack ALOT faster and keep that line tight! I hope this helps!

that curado 300 is spiffy for all baits IMO. I have thrown everything all the way up to the BBZ on it and does fine.

Hey Basshol, do you really think that any reel could help your fish catching skills? :?
