Do you have any info on what the process will be for us to get in?
Re: Just got word that Casitas is going to be opening
This is great news. I'm sure the local businesses have felt the pinch since the lake closed.

Re: Just got word that Casitas is going to be opening
In a couple weeks the security cables will be made(hopefully). People on a waiting list will be called to have their boat inspections done. The inspections will be very, very complete. If your boat passes, you're allowed to take your boat home, and after 10 days have passed, you are ready to enter the lake. The staff will destroy your security seal, and after using the lake, you get a new one. IF the seal has been "modified", or IF you have a seal you "borrowed" from another boat- you're off the lake for 1 year. ( Staff will track which boats have each seal.) If the seal was cut to use another lake, you're back on the 10 day waiting period for re- entry. Details are being worked out. We MAY be able to do inspections on Saturdays and from 4-7pm. afternoons during the week. Questions should be directed to the recreation dept. at Lake Casitas. It's a new system, and I'd imagine changes will happen as it progresses, and it'll be "fine- tuned". ALL 5 DIRECTORS APPROVED THIS PROGRAM.
Re: Just got word that Casitas is going to be opening
I was told the list will start with the dry storage waiting list , Im #92. Just in time for the night tourneys.
Good job guys ! The Clean and dry inspection will be EXTREME !You better blow all water lines with high pressure air and wet and dry vacume. Kiln dried or its 30 days in dry dock.

Re: WHY CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET TOGETHER?
IF CASTAIS CAN GET ITEMIZED NUMBERED TAGS WHY CANT ALL LAKES GET ON THE SAME TICKET. WHEN YOU LEAVE A LAKE GET A TAG. GO TO ANOTHER LAKE AND BE RECOGNIZED AS BEING TAGED. A COMPUTERIZED ERA I'M SURE THIS CAN BE DONE. GET THIS, CHARGE AND USE THE MONEY FOR A BIGGER BETTER SYSTEM. GIVE TO THE STATE ANOTHER PIECE OF THE PIE AND WHILE YOUR AT IT EDUCATE AND LICENSE. THIS WILL GIVE MORE FUNDS FOR FISH AND GAME, SAFTEY, BETTER CLEANER LAKES.
Re: Just got word that Casitas is going to be opening
So if I understand this correctly after my boat is inspected I can't use my boat for 10 days. How does this work if you fish more than one circuit?

Re: Just got word that Casitas is going to be opening
That's great news. A lot of hard work needs to be acknowledged.
Thanks to all who were involved.
At this point, this system would seem to eliminate tournament guys who fish other lakes. It's probably not feasible to haul your boat up there for reinspection, and then have your boat sit for ten days prior to every time you want to fish Casitas.
I think Rob T's idea of getting all the clean lakes to participate is the only way tournament anglers, and the rest of us who just like to fish every weekend, will be able to fish there on a regular basis.
But the door has been opened.
I think the word is precedent.
It's a start.
Thank you Larry Elshere, Doug Hansen, Ron Cervanka, John Barron, and everyone else who has had a hand in this victory.

Re: Just got word that Casitas is going to be opening
Will it be feasible to have tournaments at Casitas with this regulation? The boats could only be used at Casitas or would have to be retained for 10 days prior to the event.
Re: Just got word that Casitas is going to be opening
I am glad CMWD made a good decision to open the lake to private boats again, but I believe the access is too strict. Even after the inspection you still have a 10 day period to wait. You can keep your boat at the lake or buy the locking system for $50.00 and take it home, wait 10 days then go to Casitas only; not for me. I appreciate what the folks involved have done for us and I have to believe these procedures are the only ones the CMWD would approve so they were added to the resolution. Untill it gets better, more reasonable and "FREE", Casitas will remain on my banned list.
Re: Just got word that Casitas is going to be opening
Not feasable for anyone that fishes a region that travels to different lakes. Maybe the night tournaments out there. Or a region that is exclusively Casitas like the AC Castaic trail...
I do have to admit, I am suprised the CMWD board rolled so fast. With all the shyt they got on this board, I figured they would have held us hostage for as long as possible. Maybe the numbers we came up with regarding lost revenue were pretty accurate, and the board had no choice but to reopen to a certain degree...

When you guys get done cheering you should check this out for more info..........

This is basically a "locals only" fix and I'm sure that suits some people just fine.
However, I have not been back to that area since I left the meeting when they closed the lake and will not return to the valley for ANY reason until some sensible regulations are in place.
If I'm not wanted at the lake you can be damn sure I won't spend a penny at a single business in that area.

Re: Just got word that Casitas is going to be opening
I'm with you Dwayne. Good for the guys that live there. Like I'm gonna drive 75 miles to have my boat inpected, drive back ,not go fishing for a whole 10 days and pay an extra $50.00 for the whatever device and then I can only fish Casitas . Like I said only good for the fishin folk that live their or only those that are just head over heels in love with the lake. I could only propose a Casitas only tourney circuit for all the locals and lovers. Directors, on your mark ,get set, go, permits for sale. Let that pay for those high pressure washers so more can enjoy at a greater pace at entry, mabe, depending on the cost of those unit?
Re: Just got word that Casitas is going to be opening
It's a start... similar to Cachuma.
Doesn't serve the masses or the tournament bass scene, but it is a start and better than what they currently have in place.
I too will not be returning to Casitas until less restrictive policies are in place, but at least some folks can leverage this and get back on the water on their own boats.
We're all between a rock and a hard place, so any give and take is positive.

I called this afternoon...and I'm #280 on the list. Good thing I'll be in Virginia till the middle of may, maybe my number will come up by the time I get back.

Re: Just got word that Casitas is going to be opening
Thanks to everyone who put in the time to get the casitas board to change their mind and at least allow some private boats on the lake. Too bad it will only benefit a small amount of private boaters, but like everyone else has said at least it is a start. I like the idea of all lakes getting on a computerized system that would allow the tracking of where boats have been, maybe the future will reveal something of this nature. Once again thanks to Larry Elshere and everyone else who put in time and hard work.

Re: Just got word that Casitas is going to be opening
What I feel we have here is progress. Progress the other way.
Seems like is was not too long ago, the house of cards were prepared to collapse. Casitas was the first big one to go, and everyone thought Cachuma was next and then a landslide.
Cachuma reversed this trend and now Casitas is re-opening even on some limited basis. Now I see Lopez and Maragrita are heading towards inspections and no talk of closing (is that right?).
What needs to happen is the STATE needs to step in with leadership and guidance. Track where boats have been and get everyone on the same page of inspections and treatments and allow resiprosity on the security tags. If you go to San Diego Lakes, then you are done until you wait your time. Only fair.
We will see how pivital Cachuma was, Casitas would not be doing this unless Cachuma lead the way.
