Bass too tough at castaic for kids (and me) any trout advice

Post by jd-santaclarita »

Hi all,
I am planning to take my son and nephew fishing this week, but I want to actually catch fish, so I think my usual trip to castaic is out. I dont have sonar and I am having a heck of a time finding fish in the sweltering heat and sun.......I was hoping to go to the bouquet canyon creek and get some trout, but it has been an eon since I fished for trout and really can't remember what works. I know I could probably use a small treble and blob of power bait, but I was hoping someone out there has a little more knowledge of this subject could make our fishing day a fun one :) Any advice? (I will be using 6' phoenix finess rod and stradic 1000fh reel if that helps). Thanks again.

Take em to Diamond Valley and just drift some nightcrawlers around the thermocline or hit the bluegills in the backs of the coves. It is really easy there, but the heat can be extreme. Maybe go late in the day or early in the morning. I have taken alot of people there ; it is almost like fishing back east. It's easy.

I wouldn't give up on Castaic Lake just yet...

...the upper lake is still WFO! I recommend renting a boat from Castaic Landing and getting the scoop from Dave Keys, who works there. DK will give you the straight skinny.
