Blodgett Lake

Post by ACRon »

Looking for someplace local to take the kids and grandkids. Has anybody fished Blodgett Lake. It is a membership lake out near Grantline and Jackson Hwy. It is also called Waegell Bros. Ranch. Any information is appreciated

I have fished from shore at Blodgett a few times and caught a few bass. Best one went around 2.5 lbs. I watched some guys in kickboats catch quite a few more than I. They could get to spots that I couldn't. I imagine there's lots of bluegill, but never tried. It's a shallow pond with lots of grass/muck in the summer/fall so the shore fishing is limited.

It's a place to go...but I wouldn't rate it as "great". I heard the Waegels sold a lot of their property out that way so I don't know if the memberships are still being sold.

I lived in Sloughhouse for several years in the 90's and march, april, and may were good times on blodgett lake. My first trip I got skunked. My second trip in my tube, I caught a small limit off the dam. My 3rd trip, I caught 3 fish for 14 lbs.........no s8#t!
One of the 3 fish only weighed 2 lbs.

The next trip, I caught only 2 fish, a 6 and an 8. The eight lb fish was the biggest bass I ever caught there, though I believe there must be bigger. I did catch a monster catfish out of there while bass fishing. Warm march/april days were best for big fish. The lake receives little fishing pressure from people in the know.

In may, splitshotting ruled, but the big fish were elusive.

All my big fish came on jig/pork.

Bluegill from may on through the summer were by the trillions, though they were tiny and my kids would wave at them as I dumped the bucket of fish back into the lake.

What I will tell you is that no gas motors are allowed. I used an electric on a boat a few times, but it was easier for me to use the tube.

Hope this helps.
