Brand new Citica

Post by ash »

Just purchased my second Citca, I spooled it up and I am having a problem.

When I turn the handle to engage the spool, the handle is spinning the line paw is turning but it is not engaging the spool. Whats the deal?

Thanks

Does this occur while on your rod? Or are you holding the reel in your hand?

The clutch should engage even if the line is slipping. Check to see that the thumb bar is not hitting your reel seat on the rod. This will cause the problem as well.

I checked to see if the clutch was hitting and it didnt appear to be. I took the reel off the rod and it did slip once, but less then it did on the rod. I am taking to the retailer today to see if they will replace it for me. The bummer is I have Flurocarbon loaded on the reel $20.00 in line in the tubes.

Switch out the spool with the new reel to save your line.

Yeah the shimano certified guy at the store I bought the reel from couldnt figure it out either. We swapped the spool on a new reel, and even the new reel would do a 1/4 - 1/2turn of the handle before engaging the spool.

He said that the pinion gear had to line up before engaging the spool...or something like that. He said if it keeps doing it, maybe I should by a Curado. I was WTF...I purchased a new reel it should respond properly, I mean at 119.00 its not small coin.

Has this been an issue or a consistant thing with the Citica's or is this a bad batch from this store? Would Shimano warranty this, the reel is ONLY one week old and not fished due to the issues.

Again I have the Citica 200 Deep spool and this reel is tight I love it. Whats the deal?

There is a position for the pinion gear to engage the spool. There are two slots and the clutch should engage within an 1/8-1/4 turn. All of our reels have this exact same system so the Curado will be no different.

You can send the reel to us for us to take a look at it. There are a few possibilities that can cause this. It will be better to send the reel to us to inspect and repair.
