i would also try a rip bait in addition to what others said

last sunday i got on to a few with a staysee 90 in the blue and silver color (they didn't want the ghost minnow)

most of my bites came from the southern part of the lake (I think the narrows but it was only my third time there) with only one in the northern part

good luck

Berryessa is a great place to take kids should be a good bite if the weather holds. I take kids on the lake all the time I will be there with my two boys on Sat also. The most realiable way to get them on fish is a Mojo rigged Baby Brush Hog in water mellon red flake. Rig it with a 2 ft leader and a 1/4 oz weight. Work it around the outside edges leading into spawning bays this will keep you on pre and post spawn fish. If he wants to do some casting a small crankbait like a Bomber 6A in firetiger or craw pattern will work fine. A small spinner bait or a VooDoo chatter bait over the grass will also work. If you are launching at Capel I would start at the ranger station area to the big island then jump over to the east side. Good luck out maybe I will see ya out there.

For youngsters I would use a spinning reel and a dart head for easy hook ups, a lot of times my nephews would just reel in and a fish would have hooked them self, if you are worried about open hooks use a shakey head and Texas rig it.

Watermellon candy Zoom Swamp crawlers, pumkin seed any brand and Babby Bluegil Robo worm fat bodies.

I like fishing the narrow going towards the dam, there are lots of points close by each other so you don't have to burn a lot of gas going from point to point and there are lots of chunk rock and down trees to fish.

Taking my 6 year old and 4 year old to Clear Lake for 4 days the first week end in May, I can't wait!!!!

What rip bait colors do you like to throw at Berryessa?

Those are awesome colors for Rips, got a 3.2 in the Future Pro tourney there on one of those colors but I would not recommend open face hooks like crank baits for small kids. My brother-in-law and I were fishing Clear Lake and had a great crank bait bite going so we took 2 nephews with us, we were catching one about every 6th cast until one nephew hooked the other in the eye with a Bill Dance Fat free shad, the miracle was it did not hurt his eye but seeing it hanging from his eye was enough for me to make sure it never happened again.

Also, make sure everyone even the little ones where sunglass's even if you are not using open face hooks.

After seeing a few posts on WB with pictures of hooks in some dudes eye...I always wear shades! That is just scary to think of catching a gamy in the eye.

Smoke purple four inch senkos on the riprap both sides of the dam,
blades in the morning in the vineyard. Jigs on both sides of putah creek inlet senkos in white in all the little cuts with wood.
